Am having surgery on the 2nd of Nov. and am freaking out!!!  I have quit smoking for over a month. My brother comes over and talks to me and we go out on my enclosed back porch and talk. He smokes but I did NOT smoke, but than i start freaking out thinking about the 2nd hand smoke am getting from him smoking. Plus, there has been other people in my house hold who smokes and that is where everyone smokes at. I haven't lit a cig at all!!!  Could that screw up my surgery????  I have done good about not smoking.  Having other people around me smoking doesn't bother me.  I just thought , seeing them smoke isn't bothering me so let them smoke away.

well I would freak out also! I dont think it will stop the surgery but how about for now lets avoid the exposure! surley your family can understand this. take a deep breath! the thing I freaked out about was the Dr. said if I came to the hospital with even so much a healing scratch on my tummy he would not operate!!! I gota kitty who loves mommy very much! we clipped her close and I had a rug for her to lay on while we lounged. so calm your self! you are almost there beside us on the loosers bench! nutti

I feel like you will be fine, but I'd stay as far away from it as possible just to be safe.

Lea, You will be fine, calm down.  The big step is you quit smoking and that is great for your health.  I think you should implement a new no smoking in my house anywhere policy.  Make them go out to the driveway or sidewalk.  You are going to do fine.  Are you Indian?  Could the Cherokee Nation not help with some of the bill for this? My brother came over yesterday and he saw how upset I was and he padlocked the door shut!!! I only ones with a key is him and my husband!! I have calmed down, and just ready for the BIG DAY!!!! I never thought about Cherokee Nation, but they take forever for anything. At times, my husband said they are worst then insurance companies!! LOL!!!

I had quit smoking for surgery and was quit for a year and a half when I finally got my surgery, but my roomie still smokes and for the coming weeks before surgery he was careful with smoking around me.  If I came into his room, he would put his cigarette out, and if the weather was okay he would go out and smoke sometimes to.  We live in an apartment building that used to be a hotel, so all the doors are inside the building, so it wasn't like just walking out the door to smoke.  One of the things we did though, when I quit smoking, was made sure that I had a place I could be without worry of second hand smoke, and that was the living room.  Since I sleep on my couch anyway and my oxygen and cpap are in the living room, it became the "smoke-free" room.  I gave my roomie his bedroom and the kitchen to smoke in.  Not only did I enjoy having a smoke free room but visitors who came over enjoyed being able to come over and not deal with the cigarette smoke.  I wish you all the luck with staying smoke-free.  For me, even after a year and a half I still sometimes wonder what it would be like to smoke again, and when I am really stressed, sometimes I just sit next to my roomie when he is smoking and that is a great reminder for me not to smoke.  Secondhand smoke stinks!!
