What To Eat When Camping?

Hi everyone, I have been doing some camping, twice in the last month I have gone camping for a weekend.  And well, I was wondering what are some good post op foods to bring?  My camp buddies eat foods that I don't feel comfortable eating. They usually cook up sausage and scrambled eggs with tortillas in morning, and eat sandwiches for lunch and fry up pork chops or cheeseburgers and potatoes for dinner.  What are some good alternatives that I can do, so that I can eat good but not compromise my diet? I know that I can get turkey sausage, that's good, and maybe wheat tortillas instead of white ones.  And bake a potato in foil on the fire instead of frying it up.  Any campers on here?  What do you make?  My roomie doesn't mind changing his camp eating habits for me, but we are looking for ideas. Also I find that I lose weight camping to, all that hiking and fishing and good clean air seems good for my weightloss :) Hard to imagine that just barely 2.5 months ago I never left the house and only had sweatpants and old tees to wear.  Now I go out all the time, wear jeans and nice shirts and care about my body!!  I love camping and fishing all the time too.

Hey Evelyn, Good for you for getting out and camping/hiking and enjoying the new you!  Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner, I've been giving this some thought  and this old brain doesn't come up with ideas as quickly as it used to   We don't camp, used to a million years ago, but not anymore. So, I'm thinking you could take some deli turkey and 2% sliced cheese instead of the cheeseburgers.  Do roll ups of those instead of using buns.  Also, you can buy turkey burgers frozen at Wal-mart....still high in protein but much lower in fat. Canned chili is good.  Make refried bean and cheese burritos on whole wheat tortillas instead of the sausage and egg burritos. Easier to digest than sausage and eggs. Don't know if this helps much.  So proud of you!!! Take care

Susan

Well my roomie and I are planning on going camping this coming weekend, and we are going to go to wal mart and buy some turkey sausage and turkey ground meat and I am also going to pre-make some ziplock omelets.  I will let everyone know how my "healthy-eating" camp trip goes, LOL.
