Another surgery

Not WLS related - hysterectomy! I found out on Friday that I will have to have a full hysterectomy because of uterine fibroids. I wasn't completely surprised, my grandmother, mother and sister all had to have the same thing at about the same age I am now. I did ask my obgyn if he could fit a tummy tuck into the surgery and he said that he actually will do that for me! One of my friends said that if I could get my boobs done at the same time, I'd have everybody wanting to get a hysterectomy I do have some concerns though. For those who may have gone through this and don't mind sharing (either here or PM) how was your relationship with your spouse affected? We've had so many changes already this year. I know our relationship is stronge, probably stronger than ever but I'm just kind of worried about it.
As always thanks for being here to answer my crazy questions.

Wow!!  Great news.  You'll be able to recover from both at one time, only have to have anesthesia once and you'll feel soooooooooooo much better! I had an emergency hysterectomy right after our son was born. Darn near died after delivery so it was the uterus or me, one was going.  So, I haven't had a period since I got pregnant 24 years ago. Sure don't miss it, neither does Gary  LOL! Since I kept my ovaries I still went through menopause, so that was a drag. Did hormone replacement for a couple of years to get me through it and I'm right as rain now. Do take care of yourself sweet one!  When will this be happening?  Keep us up on the goings on. We'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Gentle hugs

Susan

Hey Angie Sorry to hear you have to go through another surgery. I had a complete hysterectomy, with removal of the surrounding lymp-nodes due to uterine cancer. I had mine a little over a year ago, and other than the hot flashes and mood swings (that the hormone replacement drugs takes care of), I have had no problems. Our relationship has not been effected too much, just the occasional dryness (I know TMI) but they make wonderful oils for that too. So don't worry, when you don't have to deal with the monthly visitor you will notice him a lot happier as well. Are you haveing a complete or partial?  Good luck and I will keep you in my prayers.

GOD BLESS   Cynthia

I am trying to wait until this semester is over. The dr. seems to think I will be o****il then and I really don't want to have to start the doc program over. I can't miss 3 or 4 classes without just having to drop altogether. So, if I can gut it out until the first of Dec, then I'll have it done then.

I don't know yet whether it will be partial or complete. I will go back for a consult with the dr before the surgery and that was one of the things that he told me to research. I understand that it will help me to avoid the possibility of long term horomone therapy by keeping at least one set of my ovaries. But my sister's dr tried a partial when she went through this and she ended up having to have a second hysterectomy to remove the ovaries about 6 months later. There may be more to the story than than but I haven't had a chance to talk to her more about it yet. It's alot to think about.

I'm not really freaked out about it, but can't help but have some concerns. Thank you all for sharing some of your experiences and for the encouragement. It's great to have you all for support! AT
