I have tried to talk to different doctors many many times over the years about my weight and getting some help with it.  All of them so far seem to have the idea that if I would just stay out of the refrigerator I'd loose some weight.  How do I find one in this area that understands where we're coming from.  I've tried so many different diets, I'm sure I can't even remember them all.   So far I have not qualified (for any surgery) because I don't have, the heart problems or the diabetes.  But now I have gained another 10 pounds and my BMI is at 39.  I think that qualifies me by itself doesn't it.  I'm a new mother at the age of 39.  I want to live to enjoy my daughter through her school years (and without huffing and puffing all the way through it).  I also have had some serious health issues that  have damaged my liver and the extra weight just makes it harder on my liver.  Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.  Thank You!

Hi Amber, I don't know much about the PCP's in Crossett but I do know that  Dr. Baker has a website that you can complete on your own and his office will review your info and take it from there.  (I was referred to the website by my PCP, but you don't have to be referred by your  PCP to apply online). It's http://www.obesity-surgery.net/ .  Click the blue button for NEW PATIENT APPLICATION and complete everything. Hope this helps!  NEVER GIVE UP!!

Thanks so much for the info Amy.  Do you not have to have an approval letter from a PCP.  It was my understanding that you had to have a letter from several different people (ie..pcp, dietician, pshycologist, etc.)  I really don't know ANYTHING about this, but really want to find out.  I feel like it is my only hope to a better, healthier life.  If I can do this without having to use my PCP that would make things much easier.  Maybe all those letters are for insurance purposes?

Those letters are for insurance purposes.  Dr. Baker will review  your application and fax or mail in a letter of medical necessity based on your answers.  If you enter the fax number for your  insurance company, they'll fax it.  I applied online Monday June 11th.  His office faxed in a letter of medical necessity  Wed June 13.  My approval letter from my insurance company was dated Thurs June 14 and I had surgery Wed July 25th. Best of luck to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
