I have only lost 13 pounds since my surgery (16 days ago). Should I be losing more, or am I on track? I just want to know if I need to be doing something more. I ride my recumbant bike 10+ miles a day. I bought some of those "bullets" of protein. Am I supposed to be using this now, or when I began on my "real food" on 10/2?

Hi there, sorry no one has replied before this. Congratulations on joining the "losers" club! Right now your body is still recovering from the surgery and you might still have fluids left from IV's and such. Dr Gibbs was my surgeon so I'm not sure just what Dr Baker wants his patients to do as far as protein is concerned, but I'd bet that you should be drinking it now. The beginning of October seems like an awfully long time to wait to start getting in your protein.  Hopefully, another one of his patients will see your post and respond. I know it's hard to be patient, but Rome wasn't built in a day, and you won't lose all your weight in a month (lol), so take it easy and concentrate on healing and getting stronger. As hard as it might be you'd do well to get the scale out of your sight for a while. It's only a source of frustration and anxiety right now. I made my husband hide mine for about a month, and he only let me weigh once a week. I was making both of us crazy Your best bet is to take measurements now if you haven't already done it. You'll soon be amazed when you're not dropping lbs you'll be losing inches. Best of luck to you, let us know if there's anything else any of us can do

Do not fret, girlfriend, the weight WILL come off.  Like Susan said, you're still healing and the more protein you can get, the faster you'll heal.  The bullets are liquid so I'd say go ahead with them,  I promise it won't hurt you.  However, if you have specific instructions not to drink them then please follow your instructions. I lost 13lbs. the first week after surgery, then not one ounce for about 5 weeks after that.  My body went into major shock, it was so stubborn and wanted to hold onto every ounce it could because suddenly I wasn't feeding it.  That is all that is happening, your body is trying to readjust itself...give it some time to figure it out then you'll be on your way again! Definitely get out the tape measure and take your measurements if you haven't already.  During those five weeks when the scales didn't move, the tape measure did.  I lost over 10 inches during that time, most of it from my waist and hips.  And since then, without fail, if the scales don't move during the week the tape measure does. Make sure you're getting all your fluids in, or at least as much as possible...I know it is hard in the beginning but the fluids are crucial to your success.  Get your protein, keep riding your bike, take your vitamins, and get enough sleep.  Other than that, just wait it out.  I'd say 13lbs. in 16 days is pretty darn good! Keep up the good work, we're here for ya!
