Being new to the Natural State, I would like to learn more about it.  So, can you all tell me some of the wonderful things about Arkansas.  What are some great places to visit in your neck of the woods?  What are some fun things to do?  What are some secrets that an outsider wouldn't know.  Help me get to know my state.  I plan to be here a while.  I want to fall in love with my home. Thanks so much~

I love shopping - so I like bathhouse road in hot springs and the entire town of eureka springs (way north of me but I go at least once a year anyway). Before it got so hot, I used to love the outdoors - so I liked petty jean mountain and camping by the lake (pretty much any of our many lakes - take your pick). I love musci - so I try to get to the local jazz festivals when they're in hot springs and I also try to get to riverfest in little rock (who doesn't?) during that time of year. It just depends on what your interests are.

Believe it or not, I didn't even know what bathhouse road was until I read this!  So, THANKS!  I have done a lot of research on the Little Rock area, but not a lot on the surrounding communities and the state.  This is so awesome.  There is a ton of stuff to do right here in the state.  The Ozarks are just LOVELY.  I am getting excited about living where there is so much outdoors stuff.   I am from South Dakota, so believe it or not, I don't know about what some may consider common knowledge...KEEP IT COMING!

My dad tries to come out twice a year to visit my sister and I, and he almost always spends a day touring a part of arkansas, and last time we went to Blanchard Springs to the caverns.  This was before my surgery, only a few months ago and we went in the caverns.  It was so neat that it didn't even bother me to walk the .4 miles through the cavern.  You should definitly go visit there. I have also been to Hot Springs and it has a lot of cool places there, the bath houses, a wax museum and the Midsouth Science Museum is very neat and they have a laser light show and tons of hands on things you can play with.  One of the news channels, might be fox 16, does a thing every night on Arkansas on a Tankful where they show a cool place to go and visit without having to use a bunch of gas.  Heber Springs is also a neat place, and I love going swimming there, you can also camp there.

I forgot all about the caverns.  My parents go there every year!

I first did a mapquest of Blanchard Springs, AR.  That put me south of El Dorado.  But, then I did a mapquest of Blanchard Springs Caverns and that put me near Mountain Home.  Is that right?  Are the caverns near Mt. Home?  They look amazing.  I think my kids would like them too!! Thanks for the tip on Fox news too.   Oh, and that Heber Springs is totally, completely up my alley.  And CLOSE too.  Is there a particular beach you would recommend?  Can you still swim there this time of year?   Oh, I can't wait!!

Yes that is right.  I have only been to one part of Heber to their beach, but my roomie says old highway 25 is the best beach/swimming area.  I am not quite sure where at Heber that is, so you would need to look it up.  But if you have little kids then the dam site would be better because it is big and it is shallow.   He also says there is the fish hatchery that is very cool and also a museum there.

What part of Arkansas do you live in now?  I am in Little Rock, we have so many things here to see, the Zoo, Clinton Library, River Market, Pinnicle Mountain, etc...  I like going to hunt for diamonds in Murfreesboro.  Taking a drive down any of the scenic highways is always wonderful.  There are tons of little family owned craft stores on most of those highways and they always have to coolest little knicknacks.  Enjoy the natural, rural part of the state, it is so relaxing and peaceful.  That is why most of us love Arkansas, we aren't crowded, even our biggest city, Little Rock, is like a small town.  It is growing however and I am not sure I want it to get any bigger!  The more you see and the more you get in touch with the nature here, the more you will love it. Welcome to Arkansas!
