Hi Karen, I know what you mean about Wal-Mart, pretty sad isn't it?  My husband (he's a city police officer) heard that we're getting either a Sam's Club or a Lowe's,  I hope so because I am sick of Wal-Mart.  The new Walgreen's is open in case you haven't heard. I had the Lap RNY.  I don't work outside the home, but by week 2 I was doing pretty much everything I did before.  Of course, you'll want to take it easy for about the first month or so because even though you may not feel a lot of pain, your body will still be recovering from majoy surgery.  I don't know if you've ever had surgery before or not, but I thought I'd warn you about the anesthesia.  Nothing scary I promise, but it can take several days after surgery for it to completely wear off for some people.  So don't be surprised if you're feeling fatigued and/or weepy after getting home from the hospital...it can make you feel "out of sorts" for several days.  I won't lie to you and I don't think anybody else will either,  that first week can be pretty horrible for various reasons.  Just hang in there and I promise in no time at all you'll feel like a new woman.   I'll be thinking about you on Monday and if you need anything after you get home let me know, I'm not very far away!  I'll PM you with my email address. Take care Denise

Your surgeon will tell you when you can go back to work.  Ask him when you meet him before surgery how long will it be before you are able to go back to work.  I think it is different depending on what kind of job you do.  After surgery you will be able to do a lot of heavy lifting for a certain amount of time, so if you are a hard laborer it may be a longer time span then if you have a more sedentery job that doesn't have much heavy lifting. I haven't worked in 5 years due to being disabled for having COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) but I am hoping with weightloss and better lung functioning that I will be able to work again by next spring.

HI Karen,

Welcome.  I make it on here to lurk myself every other day and post when I have a spare moment. :)

I had Lap Rny with Dr. Gibbs in October of 2005.  Wow how time speeds by.  I was in the hospital for 3 days and would have to say that by a week after surgery I was sleeping comfortable in my own bed and driving at 10 days.  I do not work outside of the home but I do volunteer and was able to do pretty much what ever I wanted by week 2.  My profile was kept up weekly if not daily in the begining if you want to check it out.  I would guess it would depend what kind of healer you are and if you have a high pain tolerance. I will be thinking of you on your "special" day. Good luck on your journey, Jennifer 361 /175 TT & BL 8-10-07  / 10 pounds removed

Hi KDNorton - I am also a "shadow lurker", but have posted before and gotten great information from everyone by lurking and asking questions.  I'm still in the process of getting everything together for Dr. Baker and my Insurance for approval.  I'm waiting on the medical clearance from cardiologist and then my consulation with Dr. Baker and then approval from my insurance.  I'm excited but a little scared too, but I'm more than ready! I wish you fast recovery and great weight loss and I'll see you on the "loser bench" soon hopefully.
