Curious..How Much Can You Eat?

It's obvious I can't eat much, only 2 tbs per meal, but I was wondering since we have members here at all different stages of gastric bypass, how much can you eat at one meal?   And how far along are you?  2 tbs fill me up but I always want that one extra bite (that I don't take).

Hey Evelyn, Glad to see you're up and about !  Watch out for that second bite.....you don't have any feeling in your pouch right now, so don't pu**** and make yourself sick! I'm eleven months post op and tonight I had 1/2 of a baked boneless chicken breast and a couple of bites of stove top stuffing and a couple of bites( well, maybe a 1/4 cup) of sauteed cabbage. That's it....maybe a total of 3/4 cup of food, maybe a little less. For lunch today all I had time for was three whole wheat crackers with some egg salad on them. I could have eaten more, but was satisfied. Keep taking care of yourself

Susan

Wow you have given me some hope.  I was beginning to wonder if my meals were always going to be so small.

No kidding.  Dr. Baker's post-surgery diet directions say, "8 week and beyond: 6 - 8 tablespoons". I told my mother, a nurse, that I thought that was a little unreasonable to think 8 tablespoons was the max forever.  But that is what they recommend, so I will do that for as long as I can, I suppose.

You'll get there! I had actually 1/2 of a sandwich last night with a couple of bites of fruit. Some meals it's a little more than others but I'm definitely eating more than I was a couple of days post-op but NO WHERE NEAR as much as I was pre-surgery. Thank heavens! AT

I am 31wks. out, nearly 8 months.  I can hold different amounts of food depending on what I'm eating.  Soups or chili, I can hold about a cup (8oz., 16 Tbs.), most times not quite the whole cup though.  Other foods about 2-4oz. each.  For example, last night I had 4oz. grilled chicken breast and 4oz. broccoli with cheese sauce, 8oz. total although I couldn't finish the broccoli...wanted that last bite but knew better.  Funny thing is, the amount I can hold changes almost daily.  Last night I ate 4oz. of chicken, tonight I may not be able to hold more than 2 oz. of the same thing.  Some days, I can barely hold 1/2 cup of anything and other days I feel like I can eat tons, so it varies day to day. So, having said all of that, at nearly 8 months the most I can eat at one time is 1 cup of food...just a smidge of what I was eating at one sitting before surgery! You're doing great!  Take care.

I am 2 years next month down 111lbs.  Your mind still thinks that your body can hold a ton of food.  You will have to train your brain differently.  It gets better!  Some days I can eat more than others.  For instance I ate at Olive Garden today and ate quite a bit....a whole breadstick..some salad and not all of my entree.....Now saying that....tomorrow I could try to eat the same meal and maybe be completely stuffed after one breadstick.  Some days I can eat a whole whopper jr....slowly of course.....other days  I take 3 bites and I'm stuffed.  I still think that I can eat more than my tummy can hold.  I don't eat NEAR the food I did pre-surgery.  Best of luck to you Kim Cabot, AR
