First Fill
I am scheduled for my first fill next week, will be 4 weeks post op then. I am a little nervous about eating afterwards. I know about the liquids and soft foods but really scared about not being able to eat much of anything. Now I can eat almost a full salad plate of food, anything. I have been able to eat everything I wanted so far so I am a little nervous. I am still at that place where I want to be satisfied with what I am eating but I want to lose wt too... any suggestions or recommendations?
I'll get my first week next week also. I'll be 5 weeks post op by then. I've heard that you are satisfied with a smaller amount of food after a fill because it takes longer for the food to empty into your stomach. And I've also heard it could take anywhere from 1 to several fills to get to that point. Let's hope for the best and hope the first one does the trick! Amy

Hi! Thought you might like a little info to make you feel better. I do not have the same doctor as you but I might be able to offer you a little insight. I did not have my first fill until 6 weeks post op and....like you.... i was able to eat whatever I wanted and a pretty good amount of it. Nothing compared to what I ate before but still too much. I just had my third fill last Monday and it is extremely tight now. I am still on liquids because it is tight and I am a little nervous about soft foods. I am going to have some tuna fish for lunch and see how I handle it. Anyway, the first two fills that I got were tight at first and I would eat like 6 bites and be comfortably full. Then after about a week the band would loosen up and I knew it was time for another fill because I could eat almost a whole sandwich before I became miserably stuffed. It takes a while and a few fills to get to where you need to be but it will happen eventually. Don't worry!!!
I was kind of worried about feeling deprived after a fill when I could only have a few bites but you actually feel satisfied with a very small amount of food. My biggest problem is wasting what is on my plate. I can't hardly stand to waste so I always take a very small amount because I know that I can always get more if I want it ( I NEVER WANT IT THOUGH!!!!! YAY!!!)
It all seems a little overwhelming at first, but it will get easier and you will be so glad that you had this done. I had my surgery a little over two months ago and I have lost 50 lbs so far. It is well worth it in the end!!
If you need anything or have any questions, don't hesitate to PM me or to post something and I will try to help you any way that I can. Take care of yourself!!

Everyone handles fills differently. I have had, um I think 4 fills and I am now doing very well. Everyone needs a different amount of fill to hit that sweet spot.. Start working on "feeling" what your body is telling you. I went far too long not listening to what my body and band were telling me and I don't think I have lost as much as I could have. I'm still -49 lbs and damn happy... don't get me wrong. I just didn't follow directions as well.. LOL (nothing new for me) Now I know.
This band is a learning experience... Hang in there!
