I posted some pics of my stay at the hospital and an update on my blog on how I am doing.  I started my 4 weeks of soft diet yesterday, and seem to be doing okay.  I really love cottage cheese , and found that the little 4 packs are great because the curds are very very tiny.  Also the different kinds of applesauces that have other fruits in them.  I hate my drain tube, it leaks sometimes, and I will have a sticky drop going down my belly.  Yuck, and in the morning I have to wa**** with a warm rag to clean up the other icky stuff.  My incision is healing nicely and I have had no trouble from it. Other than that, my mental state has been quite the opposite.  I tend to cry several times a day, usually out the blue, but related to my surgery.  I ask myself often why I did this and wonder if it will all be worth it in the end.  From what I understand this is normal right after surgery because things are hectic in a way, my life went from living one way to now being totally different, and honestly I feel I have no control over it at this point.  Everything is done with rules and there is really no room for error when I am only post op 1 week.  I was told today my Becky at Dr. Bakers staff that I can try to get in 5-6 ounces of fluids every hour between meals now, whi h I am happy for, because I felt so thirsty on what I was drinking.  I will be glad when I have a better outlook on my surgery and life decision.  But for now, I guess, I will just try to think of happier things when I feel like crying.  Oh and I go to see Dr Baker on Sept 11th to have my stitches and drain taken out. Oh and if anyone has any advice on how to take my medicines without crushing them, I would truly appreciate it.  The vits that Dr Baker wrote for me to take are so huge that I have to break them in half and I feel like it feels my tummy up, and I already take other medicines too and some of them now require being broken in half and it is obvious I cannot take them all at one time, but I have yet to work out a good plan in getting them in.  For now I am sticking with the the few that are most important.

I felt the same way after surgery.  I was in so much pain I wondered why I had made the decision for surgery.  My life has changed so much though....for the better.  No regrets.  You will get there.  Stay positive and follow the rules.  Take care!! Kim Cabot, AR

Hang in there Evelyn.  You can do this!  You'll start to feel better soon.  I don't have any different advise about meds. I crush my sugar pill and cut the others in half. Amy

Hi  I just wanted to pop in and say You're doing great!  It sounds like you're on top of things, I know you were well prepared going into surgery.  However, knowing what to expect and actually experiencing it are two different things.  We've all been there, and come out of it.  If you feel like crying, go ahead and let it out...you'll feel better.   I will offer you the same advice I offer all new post-ops...ONE DAY AT A TIME.  Don't worry about tomorrow or next week or even next month, just start with today.  Do what you know is right for today, go to bed knowing you did something good for yourself and your body, then get up tomorrow and do it again.  Before you know it, you'll be in a routine and feeling back to normal.  You'll look and feel great and then you'll think, Why did I worry about this? It will be worth it in the end.  Give your new tool time to work.  In one month's time you'll be a whole new woman.  Remember, one day at a time. Take care, Denise
