I'M HOME. Well I've been home for a few days but didnt have the energy to post until now. Ok. I knew there was always a chance that it could have to be open but I guess I just assumed it would all go fine and be done lap. Surprise. So my Dr. started lap and had to convert to an open so now I have the small incissions for the lap and a huge one that goes from under my breast bone about 12 inches long.  Oh well at least it is done. I just wanted to know from any of you who had the open how long were you down. Although it has just been 9 days ago, I feel like I have spent years in that recliner. My day consist of walking a couple laps around the house every hour or so.(I cant seem to stay up very long I feel so tired). Eating my 2 tablespoons of food (mostly cottage cheese, apple sauce, or yougart.  I hate even the thought of eating this yet again). Then back to the recliner. The highlight is when it shower time which really wears me out. I dont mean to be whinny I just want to know about how long this will last. I was expecting to be up and going somewhat faster by now. I guess I'm just at the "what have I done to myself" stage.  Thanks, Tammie

Tammie, your doing so good keep up the good work. I swear, it does get better. I just had surgery 1 month ago and I started to feel better around the 2 week mark. (Sorry, but I had lap not open). But I had to respond because I thought I wrote your post. I felt the exact same way. I went through the awful what did I do, the angry, the depressed, the everything. Someone said it was like mourning. I truly believe this. Your mourning the way you were and how you used to eat. It's a terrible process to go through while your body is recooperating. Best of luck and hang in there!

I was back to work in 2 weeks after my RNY surgery.  That was almost 2 years ago...I'm down 111lbs.  Keep walking and moving...the soreness will get better.  Lay on the couch...it will make you use your stomach muscles more to get up.  Things will get better soon!
