UPDATE ON MY FILL!

This is an email I just sent out to my friends and family, so I wanted to post it here.  I just wanted you guys to know why I'm explaining things that i know you guys already understand! And my fill appointment was different from Dr. Baker's, so I thought you guys might like hearing how another doc does it.

I just got back from my first post-op doctor's appointment, and it went so well I just can't help but brag to those of you that I know care about me!

It's been 6 weeks since surgery, and my lap-band was not filled, or tightened, yet.  This time was for me to heal and not really to focus on losing weight.  However, I decided since I'm paying for this bad-boy, I might as well follow the rules as though the band were tightened.  So I ate smaller meals, didn't eat the things I wasn't supposed to, and really watched my water and protein.

So as a result, I had lost 21 pounds at my appointment this morning!  The doctor and nurse were really proud of me, and said I've done the best out of all the people who had surgery my week.  She tried to trick me by asking how it went when I ate things like bread and chicken (hard for bandsters to eat), and I said I didn't know, because I hadn't eaten any of those things yet.  She said I was doing good, because most people were eating those things.

My fill was way easier than I expected.  I wanted them to numb the area up, but they didn't.  The doctor comes over with this three inch long needle that's curved at one end, and it made my head a little dizzy, but it really didn't hurt at all.  He found my port on the first try, and he injected 1 cc of saline into the band to tighten it just a little.  In two weeks, they will do the same thing again.  They will continue doing this until I can eat the small amounts of food and not feel hungry later, and target weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week.

So I left there in tears because I was so excited.  It was such a burden lifted off me to know that things are working the way they should, and all this has not been in vain.  I am even more motivated than I was before, and I can start exercising now.

Congrats on your first fill and your 21 lbs. Glad everything went well for you. I see Dr.Gibbs for the first time today for my preop appt. I'm kind of nervous. Today he will tell me if I can do it Lap or if they will have to do an open. Keep up the good work. God Bless, Tammie  Treadmill
