first fill appointment. what to expect?

i go in for my first fill appt with dr. gibbs tomorrow.  what all will happen?  i'm sure they'll weigh me (i've lost 19 pounds!) and talk a little bit.  will they do blood work?  i wonder how long everything will take?  i would love to be back at work by 10:30 for a meeting, and my appt. is at 9:30.  I don't have Dr. Baker but the first fill is not that bad, just weird. I found it very odd to see the port hooked to the saline injector... not painful just weird.  Here's what my Dr. did...  Weight, BMI,  blood pressure... wait... Dr came in and talked about diet and what you have been eating... while prepping the port area with that brown antiseptic..  Stick with lydocaine and then they attach the port filler (sorry- I don't know its technical name.) Ours looks like a big pushpin with a tube connecting the plunger on the end. They ask you to drink some water and fill they band, going tighter and looser so you can feel the difference. This is where I got befuddled cos I have yet to find words to describe the feeling for a good sweet spot fill. Sip.. wait... sip... wait... add a little... it goes like that until they are satisfied with your answers.  pull out injector, and you're done. voila!! If your Dr has a fast staff... you should be out in no time. I know at Wellborn's you usually have a little wait on your hands. Hope this helps.. Good luck and let us know how it was. Susan
