How long does Dr. Gibbs suggest you take off from work after a lap RNY?  Thanks, Tammie

Hi Tammie, I don't think he gave me a "set" length of time to stay off work. I know he said three days after discharge before I could drive.  I went back to work 1/2 days after 10 days, then the following week worked full time again. I'm pretty much on my feet all day and did just fine. I think Dr Gibbs  lets you rely on how you feel and what type of work you do. There is a lifting restriction, but I can't remember now for how long or what weight. Take care

I went ahead and took 2 weeks off - but I could've gone back in one. I do alot of sitting so it wouldn't have been a big deal for me to return in one. I even drove to AL the 2nd weekend after surgery. I had my RNY laproscopically so the recovery time is less.

The lifting restriction is like 25 lbs or so for 4 weeks. When I went back for my 3 week checkup, Dr. Gibbs released me from all restrictions. He said I was healing well and had no problems so I started doing sit ups at 3 weeks post-op.

I do have a pretty high pain tolerance so you go at your own pace.
