Getting Closer

Hello, I found out that I do have sleep apnea.  I am going back this Friday to be tested with the CPAP machine. I get so mad that I allowed myself to get like this. It's almost funny because my mom and husband blame themselves and say they should've done something but like I tell them "What were you gonna say" The simple fact is I did this to myself. Now it is up to me to fix it. Anyway my PCP is going to send me to one of Dr. Gibbs seminars. Does anyone know when the next one is? I don't know if my insurance will pay for the surgery or not. If they don't my husband and I have decided to take a home equity loan for the surgery.  Does anyone know how much it would cost if I paid for it out of my pocket?

Good luck on this journey. I used Dr. Gibbs, had my surgery in May. I believe what they told me he gives his seminars on the last Friday of each month. Depending on what insurance company you have, I was told that if you have certain obesity caused ailments you are automatically approved for the surgery. I have diabeties and PCOS and was approved the first time I applied. As for the cost the total that was subbmitted to my insurance was $37,943.71, that was the hospital, Dr. Gibbs and labs. The Hospital was $29,592.91, Dr. Gibbs was $6,921.00, one other Dr (I am guessing anesthesia) $1170.00 and labs was $259.80. All these amounts may sound terrifying, but if you have to pay out of pocket I believe Baptist gives a discount. You will be told all of that at the seminar. Good Luck and GOD Bless I hope everything turns out okay. Cynthia

Hi There and welcome! I'm a patient of Dr Gibbs, 9 months out and just 2 lbs from goal!!! My before & after pics are on my profile if you want to see, All you have to do is call Gibbs office, they are so helpful. They'll tell you when the next seminar is and they will also talk about the money part of it at the seminar too. Just so you know, I had sleep apnea when I had my surgery and today I returned my CPAP to the medical supply company. Wanted you to know the light at the end of the tunnel isn't a freight train!!! Good luck to you, just ask if there's anything at all we can do to help you on your journey.

Hi there    I, too, am a patient of Dr. Gibbs...you'll be in good hands.  Call his office...501-227-9080...tell them you want some information on Dr. Gibbs next seminar, she'll probably transfer you to Tina.  Most likely you'll get her voicemail, have a pen ready because she'll give you her email address.  Then you can either email her and tell her you want to sign up for the next seminar or leave her a message and she'll call you back.  You do have to sign up for the seminar because they have limited space available. In the packet you will receive at the seminar is a sheet of paper with the breakdown of costs for self-pay.  The one I have has a total of $23673 for Lap gastric bypass with the gall bladder also being removed...if he leaves the gall bladder it would be $22500.  For the open procedure the cost would be $17100 with gall bladder removed...if he leaves the gall bladder it would be $16300.  The lap band costs is $16300.  This is information was given to me in January of this year, so ifs probably still accurate.  You at least have a ballpark figure of what you're looking at.  Hope this helps some.  Good luck on your journey and let us know if you have any more questions.

My surgery date is Aug 6th and it cost $22,500. for lap bypass. I already had my gallbladder out so I dont have to pay for that. My insurance has a cap for WLS of $4000. We took out a personal loan for the balance.  But I think it will be worth every penny.  Carrie (Dr. Gibbs nurse) and Kay (finance) are awsome and can get you all the information you'll need. Keep us posted.  God Bless, Tammie
