Ok. I've talked with Kay Monday. (finance) Getting that taken care of. She told me that Carrie would be calling to schedule my surgery.  I figure sometime later this week or next week. When I get a date what happens in between then and surgery? How long before my date do I have my preop appt with Dr.Gibbs?  What happens at my preop appt with Dr Gibbs? Do I see the nutritionist then? How long does he put you on liquids prior to surgery? I'm just trying to get an idea of whats going to happen now.  It seems to be going in slow motion. Patients is not one of my strong points. Sorry for all the questions.  Tammie

Hi Tammy, I had my pre-op with Dr Gibbs about a week before my surgery. Since I didn't have mine done at Baptist, I saw the nut (she really was!) at St Vincent's just about the same time, maybe even the same day. I know it was 5 weeks from the time I got approval to my date, but that was my choice. NO liquid diet, no bowel cleansing either. Just no food after 7 p.m. no liquids after midnight the night before surgery.......YIPPPPPPEEEE Don't apologize for questions...it's why we're here.

Ask as many questions as you need to, that's why we're here!  I'll try to answer your questions.  Carrie will probably call you this week, she's usually on the ball and doesn't keep you waiting.  When I get a date what happens in between then and surgery?  You try to keep yourself busy!  Seriously, once Carrie sets your date there's nothing left to do except wait     Unless you have some finance stuff to finish. How long before my date do I have my preop appt with Dr.Gibbs?  He wants to see you within 2 weeks of your surgery date, I had mine the day before surgery.  Carrie will schedule that with you when she calls you with a date, I'd plan on the week of surgery probably. What happens at my preop appt with Dr Gibbs? Carrie will weigh you, then you'll meet with Dr. Gibbs.  He'll tell you what he wants you to know, he'll answer your questions, and that's pretty much it. Do I see the nutritionist then? Your nutritionist, Jo Beth, works at Baptist hospital and you will see her, most likely, the same day you see Dr. Gibbs.  You'll probably have your pre-op testing at Baptist the same day also.  Carrie will send you a small packet with your appt. times and directions and all that once you set a date.  I had my pre-op testing, then my appt. with Jo Beth, then my appt. with Dr. Gibbs all the same day in that order.  I don't know if that was because I live 2 hrs. away or if they schedule everybody this way.  Somebody else may have a more definitive answer on this. How long does he put you on liquids prior to surgery? As far as I know Dr. Gibbs doesn't require a liquid diet before surgery, at least he didn't with me.  Again, I don't know if that is because I was a "lightweight" or if he does this with everyone.  Somebody else probably knows the answer to this as well. Now, just sit back and wait for Carrie to call, she won't keep you waiting too long.  Congrats on getting to this stage

Congratulations, I had my surgery in May, and as far as all the appointments I had all of mine the same day, the day before surgery. My preop at Baptist was at 12:30, JoBeth at 1:15 and Dr. Gibbs at 3:15. As far a a diet before, nothing, you just can't eat anything after 7pm and no liquids after midnight. As for the appointment with Dr. Gibbs I was in there for about 10 minutes, I got to meet with Carrie right before I left. I have heard how everyone speaks about Dr. Gibbs, yes he is a good surgeon, I guess, I have actually spoken with him twice, once in Preop and once at my 3 week check up. I am not sure why but I did not even see him while I was in the hospital. I did not even see a doctor until they discharged me and that was in the hallway. He was one of Dr. Gibb's associates. He stopped me in the hallway and asked how I was tollerating foods and then told me I could go home. Don't get me wrong, I have no problems with my surgery, he did an excellent job, I just did not have the same experience as some of the ladies on here. I hope your experience is much better than mine.  I will keep you in my prayers. Good Luck and GOD BLESS Cynthia

I had a similar experience, all three appointments on the same day. My surgery got bumped up so I had my pre-op appointments on Thursday and my surgery on the following Monday. If my original surgery date had held, I would've had my pre-op a week before, but I'm close to LR so it was no big deal for me to go at different times.

No liquid diet for me either - that was awesome. I also had the 5:30 appointment for surgery so I didn't have to endure much time with nothing - that was a blessing!

You'll do great and please ask away. That's why we're here. AT
