After 6-8 weeks of waiting for insurance approval after over1 yr of jumping through their hoops to follow criteria guidelines I now have to provide documented weight loss attempts and weights for the last 5 years, dietician notes despite I have already sent the copies of the consults as noted with the citeria and have a psych eval... I am totally fed up with insurance and just want to yell how dare they restrict a provided service but oh yeah I also forgot I am dealing wiht the same insurance that has denied my son's therapy AAAWWWGHHHHHHHH anybody have any advice or other horror stories about insurance that might remotely make me feel better

I'm so sorry you are having to go through the hoops.  But you are worth it - just keep plugging away and you'll get there.  It will all be worth it - hang in there. AT

I'll yell with you.I just dont understand insurance companies. They will pay for treatment if I had a drug or alchol abuse problem or even viagra for men but not for a surgery that will save them money in the long run. Doctors like Dr.Gibbs are collecting information from pt that have benifited from WLS and presenting it to insurance companies so that some day this will hopefully not be such a restricted issue with them.  Just wanted to say I feel your pain and hope everything works out for you. I just decided to put it in Gods hands and if it be his will he will make it happen. After all as I always say He can handle way better than I can.

Hey, just stick in there. My husband had pretty much the same problem you are having. It took him over a year before he finally got apporved. The doctor sent in paper work three different times and kept getting a denial, finally he sat down and wrote a letter to the insurance himself. (Giving his story and what he has tried and been through, what he was feeling and what this weight was doing to him and our family) after they received his letter, within a couple of weeks he was approved. Sometimes what you have to do is take things in your own hands, give them your story in your own words and tell them what this weight is doing to you mentally, physically and emotionally. It might help, it curtainly can't hurt.  Good luck & God Bless Cynthia

Please don't give up! I know this seems like an unclimbable mountain sometimes, but it  can be done. Don't let the insurance company win by letting yourself get down. They hope you get good and sick of the whole thing and give up, then they don't have to pay!!  The jerks Keep your chin up, we're here for you!

Thanks for the support. It helps to know that even though I still want to yell at my insurance company others have aldo wanted to yell at theirs also. I hope to finish all their hoop jumping in the next two weeks and will resend all the paperwork.
