A couple of questions
I have a couple of questions for you experienced WLS folks. Did anyone have THICKER hair after surgery? I have been so freaked out about losing my hair that I'm not sure what to think. But in the last 3 days I've had several people mention that my hair looks thicker - is that weird or what? I wasn't sure if anyone had anything like that or not. My fear is that it's just getting ready to fall right out.
My other question is about quantity of food for each meal. I seem to have times when I can just barely get a few bites down and then there are times when I can eat a full meal (ok full meal is a relative term - 4 tbls.) I haven't been snacking during the day. I do indulge in some sf cheesecake pudding at night sometimes, but that's about it as far as snacking goes. Is this normal or should I be concerned?
Thanks in advance for your help! AT
Hi Angie,
I think you're too close to surgery for your hair to start falling out, usually it happens between 3-5 months post op. Did you happen to increase your protein intake or take extra vitamins before surgery? Remember, 70% of us do lose some hair, some lose more than others. But if I were you I'd just enjoy it and not worry.
As far as the quantity of food is concerned, I don't think it abnormal for you to be able to eat different amounts from one meal to the next. Right now you're unable to feel fullness, so I'd just be careful not to exceed Dr Gibbs guidelines on the amount of food at one sitting. Good for you for not snacking, as that is one of his BIG no-no's. His concern is that by snacking we'll revert to old habits and snacking will become grazing and so on, and so on.
Are you getting in all of your liquids, protein and vitamins??? If you are then it sounds like you're on the right track and doing fine. All of your questions are valid ones, and if there is anything else you need, just let us know.....that's what we're here for!
Keep up the good work,
Susan
Thanks Susan! I am so paranoid about my hair - I don't have much to begin with and the thought of losing more just makes me queasy feeling.
I have been struggling with my liquids. I keep a drink with me all the time but I'm only getting about 20 to 24 oz. It's hard when you just sip, but sip I do and hopefully I'll work up to 64 oz a day eventually.
I'm taking my vitamins faithfully and eating my protein first for each meal. Just following the directions as closely as possible. Thanks for the reply - AT
