Monday - WHAT?

That was my response when Carrie called me today to tell me she could move me up from June 8 - to Monday! It began a few hours of scramble to move up all of my arrangements for my life but I am pumped. I go tomorrow for my pre op stuff and then be at the hospital at 5:30 am on Monday for the 7:30 am surgery time. I'm still spinning alittle and hit a panic feeling every few minutes but overall I'm excited. So ladies help me out - I know they will have me up walking as soon as possible afterwards. What shoes worked best? Houseshoes, crocs, socks...? Were pj pants comfy or too much for the incision areas? I'm not much of a gown person but I also don't want to regret no having comfy clothes. Any tips you've got for me will be greatly welcomed. I was still taking my time learning about things and now I'm in crash course mode - feels like I'm taking finals again! Monday - can you believe it?

Hey Angie, congratulations I know you are excited. I just got out of the hospital Sunday, after my surgery Friday. Make sure you stress to all the nurses you have if you want a private room. (My surgery only lasted about 2 hrs, recovery about 2 hrs, waiting for a room 3hrs - but worth the wait) As for the incisions, mine are below my ribcage, above my belly-button (I had the lap R NY) I guess it depends on what kind of surgery you are going to have. I don't think your pj pants will hurt the incicions I have worn pants since I got home and none of them have bothered me. I found it better for me to wear slip on house shoes. But any slip on shoes will be fine, because you will probablly not be able to bend over, at least I was not. The only other thing I can tell you is take you a comfy pillow, all the pillows I got were hard and thin, but then again I am a pillow person, one on each side and one under my head. (I got one of those microbead pillows, ya know the soft squishy ones you get to ride in a car) Also I found it helpful for the ride home to put a pillow on each side of me and my little squishy pillow under my head. That is about all the info I can offer, I am sure you will be fine. Good luck, GOD Bless, and praying for a speedy recovery. Cynthia ps If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

Thank you so much for the info. I will be sure and take my pillow - I can't stand not having my pillow anyway. I too will be having Lap RNY so the incisions should be about the same place I would think. I'm glad - I don't care for gowns. I feel too exposed! I'll let you know if I have other questions. AT

Angie, OMG! Can you believe it is gonna happen! I am so excited for you! Wow....Monday! I am glad you are going to go ahead and do it now. I took crocs to the hospital. Boy was I glad! They are easy to slip off & on and work great for walking the halls. I also took socks to keep my feet warm. You better take some lotion for your skin. Ya know antibiotics will dry your skin out! I had open RNY so I took gowns which worked great because Dr. Gibbs had me in a binder while in the hospital. I wore hospital gowns till the 2nd day. After I took a shower, I changed into my own gown. Don't sweat walking, I walked within 2 hours after getting in my room. Ditto about the pillow! Your gonna do great! Dr. Gibbs will take excellent care of you. I will call and check on you Monday. Godd Luck girl! Huggs, Rhonda T

I'm still reeling about it. I don't know what a binder is but hopefully I won't have one. They don't sound fun! My surgery is suppose to be lap RNY so maybe I will escape that. I'll add the lotion to the list. I didn't know that antibiotics dried your skin out - I knew they could interfere with birth control - I always paid attention to that! I guess dry skin didn't bother me as much with that perspective. Ok - if you can't tell I'm a little giddy today. I've got so much rattling around in my head. I am off to go to my pre-op appointments. Thanks for all the info and encouragment. AT

Angie they will want you to stay in your hospital gown. Bring a housecoat to wear. You need comfy clothes to wear home. Shoe wise any shoe will do but most wear houseshoes or crocs. Angie will you be in Baptist?

I will be in Baptist. I have my pre-op appointments today and will be there for the 7:30 am surgery on Monday morning. Thanks for reminding me about my housecoat. I would have hated to get down there without it. I'm adding it to my do not forget list. Thanks! AT

I'm not sure that I'll sleep this weekend. The fact that it's Mother's Day on Sunday and my oldest son's birthday is Monday - I have alot to get done before I have to be in surgery Monday morning. Thank you so much for the advice on things to take. I fortunately don't have the apnea machine - but I'm glad you reminded me about taking a book. AT
