I am new to this, so please bare with me. I have recently been approved for my surgery with Dr. Gibbs. My surgery date is May 4th. I have not gotten any information on a pre-op diet. The only diet information I have is post-op diet and what to eat when I went to the seminar. Can anyone tell me what is involved in the pre-op stage? I am starting to get a little nervous.:angst: Thanks and God Bless Cynthia

Hi Cynthia, welcome aboard! Congratulations on your approval and upcoming surgery. Dr. Gibbs did my Lap RNY on Jan. 19th of this year. He doesn't require any kind of pre-op diet that I know of, at least he didn't with me. You'll go in for pre-op testing, usually withing 2 wks. of your surgery date. My pre-op testing was the day before surgery. Are you having your surgery done at Baptist? You'll get loads of good information from Dr. Gibbs' dietician, Jo Beth. Other than your pre-op testing, there's really nothing else to do but keep yourself busy from now until May 4th. Dr. Gibbs' staff is wonderful, especially his nurse Carrie. If you have any questions at all they will gladly answer them for you. If I can answer anything for you, feel free to PM me anytime. Take care and good luck on your journey! Denise

Thanks Denise. I don't want to pry, and if you don't want to say I will understand, by how are you doing after surgery? How long were you in the hospital? How long did your surgery last? And this is a biggy, how much have you lost? (If you don't mind me asking):-S And yes I am having mine at Baptist. Thanks Cynthia

Cynthia, You ask all the questions you want, how else are you going to know? Most of us on here are pretty open about our experiences, so don't ever feel like you're prying To answer your questions: I am doing great! I had zero complications after surgery and I'm feeling fine. I've gotten sick about a handful of times, mostly just from foods that no longer agree with me (like pasta and eggs). I get all of my fluids and protein, one way or another, every day and I work out 5-6 days a week. My surgery lasted just over an hour and I was in Baptist for 2 days...had surgery Friday morning and was home Sunday afternoon. I took the pain medication they prescribed me exactly one time after returning home and that was it. I never really felt any pain, just a lot of soreness. I have read where some people experience a lot of pain after surgery, even the Lap procedure...I guess it depends on your pain tolerance. Of course, the Morphine drip Dr. Gibbs gives you while in the hospital doesn't hurt . I've lost 32lbs. and 21 1/2 inches so far. I'm a slow loser, but I'm ok with that. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! Take care, Denise

Congrads on the loss. Thanks for all the information, I just hope I can loose it as fast as you did. I have been told by several people, one of them a doctor, that women do not loose it as fast as men. So 32 pounds in little over two months is a goal I am willing to set. Keep up the good work. God Bless Cynthia

Hey Cynthia - I'm new to this too, but I attended Dr. Gibbs info seminar just today and specifically asked about a pre-op diet. I had read so many things on the main board about a liquid diet prior to surgery but he said that no pre-op diet is required unless there was just something really weird going on with you health wise (something about the liver). I'm crossing my fingers to get a date in May - that's the best time of year for me work and home wise so I'm hopeful. Good luck and hope this helps. AT

Congrads Cynthia on your surgery date. Dr. Gibbs is great and his staff is awesome! I am scheduled for surgery this next Friday, April 6th. Dr. Gibbs did not require any special diet before surgery. Stay busy and the time will pass faster. Huggs~ Rhonda 6 days to go

Thanks for all the information, that kind of eases my mind a little. I know when my husband had this done in Shreveport he had to go on a liquid diet 2 days before surgery and had this nasty stuff to drink 12 hours before, (something about cleaning his system out) and I was really not looking forward to that. So, thanks for all the feedback. And I am having my surgery at Baptist. And congrats and good luck to you all. God Bless.

Hi Cynthia! Just wanted to tell you that I am kind of new to this whole thing too. I have been on this cite before and posted a few questions. I have met some really nice people who are more than willing to help. I am a little curious about a pre-op diet too. I am using Dr. Wellborn for the Lap-Band and I wondered if he had some kind of diet before the surgery?? Maybe we will figure it all out soon. It seems like so much information to take in at one time. Just keep asking your questions. There are lots of great people out there willing to help! Good Luck!!! Karen

Wellborn has a 10 day 800 cal diet... Suzan suggested 2 protein drinks (slim fast or whatever) and a lean cuisine... just count your calories. its not that bad and I have lost almost 10 lbs in 9 days just from that.. The other night I couldn't even finish a Lean cuisine... (Beats wanting another..) also cut the NSAIDS (that was the hardest cos I used to take Excedrin- which has caffeine- for migrane headaches) Be prepared to get alot of information in your Dr visit. The office staff is great and they take time with you.. I was there for 2 hours! Be sure you get your presurgery packet via email... I didn't for some reason of the internet gods and had surprise labs the same day at St. Vinnies... but it all worked out and only one trip in the city for me!! PM me if you need any other info... Hang in there... Susan
