and I'm about as nervous as a cat being chased by a pit bull! I'm not scared of the surgery or pain...I can handle that. I'm terrified of the anesthesia and coming out. I had my pre-op appointment with Dr. Wellborn yesterday and I guess him reminding me of all of the possible complications is what did it. EEEK! Was anyone else as nervous as I am??? And what did you do to calm down? I know that afterwards everything will be fine, but right now is what I need help with. Sleep apnea is a big thing. I've never been diagnosed with it, but my husband says I snore really loud. He watched me last night and said I didn't stop breathing, but who's to say that he didn't fall asleep watching me?!?! And if I do stop breathing and don't have one of those machines and have problems...oh sheesh...I'm working myself into a huge frenzy. Help!

I was afraid too. When I had my surgery, they were unable to take me off the ventilator so for two days, I had to stay in ICU and keep the tube down in my lungs and let the machine breathe for me. When I was completely awake from the anesthesia, I began breathing on my own, a little at a time. I have bad lungs, though, and they knew this too so we had a cardiologists and a pulmonologists on standby. You will be through this before you know it and your biggest complaint will be cream of wheat or mashed potatoes. Good luck.

Oh my. I'm thankful that you are okay Jeannie but what a horrifying experience! Or at least, it sounds like that to me. Thank you for sharing that with me but somehow I still don't feel much better after hearing that. I'm glad you are okay though...and it's nice to see that you are doing well with everything now.

LuAnne, You are in the best of care with Dr. Wellborn....If you are having surgery at St. Vincent, then the day of surgery when you get there tell them you want Dr. Frost for your anesthesiaologist. He is THE VERY best!!! I LOVE that man! And if you get to Dr. Frost tell him Ms. Murphy says HI! lol Cathi

Cathi: Yes, I do feel comfortable with Dr. Wellborn...he and his staff have been wonderful and very helpful. I will try to remember to ask for Dr. Frost. Thanks for the tip.

Hey girl. Well, I guess it's too late to find out for sure now, since I leave for the hospital in about an hour, so let's just hope that everything turns out alright. Yes, it would be nice for us to be able to freak out together. LOL Sounds like your life is quite busy right now between possibly moving and getting ready for surgery, so bless your heart! Wish me luck and I'll post when I get home how everything went. Thanks for all the good wishes!

LuAnne, I was just thinking about you yesterday! I have the same fears also. A wise old man told me once, "You can worry & worry & worry but.......in the end, you have gotten nowhere because the outcome is the same and you have wasted all that energy & time". I try to remember that everytime I start to worry & I realize it is not in my hands anyway. Girl, I have sleep apnea and YES, I sleep on a cpap machine BUT, I am getting rid of it after surgery! It's just anxiety and it WILL PASS. Take a long bubble bath and relax. Your going to be just fine! Stay busy and the time will pass quick! We are here for you and feel free to PM any of us. Huggs to ya! Rhonda 16 days to go

Hmm...that wise old man earned his name. You're absolutely right. Tell my nervous system though! I know that the good Lord above is going to watch over me but I suppose it's only human to be scared. I did take a long bath this morning and it helped a bit. I keep looking at the clock and everytime I see what time it is, my tummy jumps. Ack! Thanks for thinking of me honey. I'll post when I get back home.
