Hi Johnnie, What is she getting in as far as her protein? Is she getting her water in? Those two things are the most important right now. Do you know what her doc's protocol is for her at this stage? susan

I am pretty sure shes getting plenty water in ...not sure about the rest. She supose to be on a soft diet...puree stuff...two talbespoon at a meal. I got her some special K protien water and she likes that. She says her taste buds have changed and nothing taste good. What about getting protien powder and mixing in her food? I have fixed her tuna and some chicken...shes had creamed potatoes and some green beans...a little cottage cheese and pears, yogart ...jello...oatmeal for breakfast. What else can we try?

Is she not drinking any protein supplement? There's little chance that she's getting her required amount of protein from what you describe. The only protein powder that I know of that mixed in food is Beneprotein. It's made by the people who make Benefiber, and as far as I know you can't get it here in AR, only on line. GNC has an unflavored protein that I bought, but I didn't like the texture. People on the boards have compared the Special K water, and from what I remember it has a lot of sugar in it and only what, about 5 grams of protein? Here is the list from my doc of what to eat the first four weeks. Two tablespoons is the same amount that I was allowed. nonfat cottage cheese nonfat sugar free yogurt nonfat or low fat cheese cooked cereals made with skim milk, such as oatmeal, cream of wheat or grits lowfat soups made with skim milk whole wheat crackers potatoes, baked or boiled without skin macaroni and cheese made with fat free cheese and skim milk---from scratch, NOT boxed smooth NATURAL peanut butter (no sugar) brown rice canned fruit-no sugar added mashed bananas applesauce or apples, without peel pears without peel canned vegetables, without seeds soft cooked vegetables, carrots, eggplant, beets, green beans, squash, peas poached soft cooked eggs, no hard boiled or scrambled egge sugar free popsicles sugar free pudding made with skim milk tuna salad (water packed) chicken salad or ham salad made with nonfat mayo, mixed to a smooth texture, or blended low fat ricotta cheese with a little spaghetti sauce on top My instructions were for me to start on my chewable multi vitamin. She really needs to be on protein supplements. Give me an address through private messaging and I'll send her a couple of samples I have here at home. If she finds something she can tolerate, she needs to get it. Try GNC, they have some decent protein powders there. And, if you KEEP the receipt, they will take it back if you don't like it. They also have some ready to drink ones called Isopure. 40 grams of protein in 20 oz liquid. They don't taste great, but I bet if she mixed them 50/50 with her special k water, and got it cold(if she can tolerate cold liquids) then she could get them down. This is all well and good for now, but I think she really, really needs to call Baker's office and talk to his nurse tomorrow. They'll have the best answers.
