Protein bars
Hi Tina,
You mean for when the time comes and you can have a protein bar? It's really too soon according to Dr Gibbs guidelines.
I like the South Beach Diet bars. I buy them at Wal-mart. They're 140 cals and 10 grams of protein. Not crunchy, but chewy. Taste is ok, wouldn't want to live on them , but they're ok if I'm running late for work.
Think I had my first one about 7-8 weeks out.
Hope everything else is going well.
Susan
Hi there,
I looked through my book too, and protein bars aren't mentioned. It does say that at 4-8 weeks, you can try TOASTED bread, shaved deli ham or turkey. Then at 8 weeks, more meat, bread and raw veggies.
In my opinion, protein bars a kind of heavy, and have a lot of crunch to them. In my mind, they'd be up there with raw veggies as far as digestibility.
My suggestion is to call or e-mail JoBeth on Monday. Get it from the horses' mouth. You don't want to upset the "pouch Gods" too soon, right?
In case you don't have it, her e-mail is: [email protected]
Phone: 501-202-2117 When you leave your message/write to her, make sure she know how many weeks post op you are, she'll be able to give you a better answer.
Take it easy!
Susan
I like the advantage bars. They have a chocolate chip breakfast bar that is to die for. It, unlike the other kinds of advantage bars, has a little sugar alcohol, but not much. You can make the protein balls, peanut butter, vanilla protein powder, oatmeal, splenda, and I add some wheat germ. They are delicious and taste like the peanut part of a reeses cup. Yummy and you could probably have those when you start on a soft diet.
