And so, my hair was falling out, by the handfulls. I had two huge bald spots on the top of my head, shiny bald spots. And on the side, my hair was gone. I woke up Monday morning and the back of my hair, near the top was gone. My hair hurts, really hurts and I know that sounds silly, but it hurt. I tried to hide the scalp by strategically putting hairs here and there and finally said **** on this, sorry, but I did and more words that are worse, and so, I went to the hair place, the women sympathized with me, and ran their hands, all of them, through my hair and said by the end of the week, I would probably be bald, so I did it: I SHAVED MY HEAD. Yep, that was MOnday and today, those bald spots, yep, they have filled in and so I'm thinking is hair like grass where you cut your grass and it comes back prettier and thicker? Hmmm, did I tell you my eyebrows are falling out too, not as bad, but still falling out. So, now I'm bald, but have tiny hairs coming back. I just hope that when it gets out there, you know back to an inch or so that it won't fall out. Do you think?

Jeannie, that's about the bravest thing I've heard of. I can't imagine what it took for you to do that, but as I've told you before, I've had chemo pts tell me when their hair fell out it hurt. I think it's very encouraging that there is already sprouts in the shiny spots, and I also think that it new hair won't fall out again. That's just a guess though, I'd ask that on the boards and see if anyone has experienced repeat hair loss after it's regrown. I think I read a post from a WLS grad that said she had stopped taking her protein and her hair was thinning. Just another reason to follow the rules long term, I guess. Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday. Is your husband coming too? Susan

Susan, it took a couple of weeks for me to see that there was no turning back. The bald spots were just so out there and I kept saying I was going to do and the other day was the straw that broke the... and I went in and plopped down and said what do you think and all of the hair folks came up with the same thing, shave it and I said do it and you know, it's not that bad. I swear. My hubby is coming. I can't wait to see you too.

you go girl, i've threatened so many times to do that and my hair isn't falling out. i bet it looks great!! keep a hat on your head, it's suppose to get cold this weekend. but after that it'll be nice. there is a lady runner in hot springs and she keeps her hair buzzed. (matches her husbands) i'm envious.

Trish, you know, it was liberating. I felt so free and for the first time in my entire life, I have not worried about what to do with my hair. I keep putting this nice thick lotion on and rubbing my scalp. I don't think I'll ever grow my hair out too much again. It feels nice.

it just proves that you are in control and you can do whatever you want. alot of people hide behind their hair. now you can do whatever you want. you can grow it back down to your behind or you can keep it buzzed. YOU ARE WOMAN. it's really cool. think about the time it will save every day!!

Jeannie, Sorry to hear that happened to you, but so glad you were brave enough to find a solution! Sounds like it is gonna come back full and nice again, just like our lawns this spring!!! For the past 5 to 6 months I have been losing it in big strands as well. My husband is always griping abt my stray hairs being all over him all the time. LOL he calls them leaches! Anyway, I think that I am experiencing my hair loss from the medication I take. Kinda scares me wondering just how much will continue to fall out and what will happen after WLS. I went and had it trimmed and layered out today, took a lot of the weight off it so it might stop dropping out. It was halfway down my back, and all one length. I don't think I would ever have the nerve to shave it all off. I bet it feels awesome but I am so used to longer hair I would probably feel naked! You go girl! Bask in your baldness and enjoy that March wind blowing on your scalp! I am sure it will come back and look wonderful! Hugs-Joyce

Joyce, before I had wls, my hair was down past my butt. I had to keep it braided all the time. I had really long and really thick hair and that was what surprised me about my hair falling out. I cut it twice before I shaved it and nothing, not cutting it or taking more vitamins or how I burshed it, nothing helped. It just started falling and kept on falling. Be prepared. I hope you don't lose much but if you do, it's not the end of the world, right?

Jodi, the bald spots that were shiny bald, they have tiny hairs coming in. It looks like a face shadow of a man, you know the 5:00 shadow. Anyway, if it comes back and falls out again, I don't care, I'd rather be bald than fat and I'm bald because of the wls. Besides, it's almost springtime and who needs to hassle with hair.
