One Year Check Up
Hi everyone. I went to see Dr. Baker on Friday for my one year check up. My vitamin D is too low so he gave me a prescription to take once a week for 10 weeks. I'll have it checked again then. Other than that, he was very pleased with my weight loss and progress.
I told him my goal is 145 and he thought that was too low. He suggested 165. I told him that even at 145 my BMI will be in the overweight catagory. He said he doesn't go just on BMI. He said he looks at the person, their over all health and everything. I really am glad I chose Dr. Baker! He was straight forward and even a little harsh before the surgery. But afterwards and every time I've seen him since, he's been very friendly and supportive. If you haven't decided who to use in AR... I highly recommend Dr. Baker! His staff has been great too.
I have also done a scrapbook of my journey. The day before my surgery I took a front and side view picture. Then every month on my anniversary date, I took another one. Same place in my house, so it shows my size in relation to the furniture too. To see the change from 328 to 188 has been so incredible! I'm losing much slower now. So for the next year, I'm just going to do a photo every 3 months. The for year 3 to 5 it may be 1 time a year. I don't know. I just want to keep myself grounded and knowing where I was and where I am!
Keeping up the support group meetings each month and coming to OH and other WLS sites daily help a lot. I am still tracking everything on fitday.com. Once I get to my goal (where ever that is!) and have maintained a while, I'll discontinue that. Then I'll keep a five lb. red flag weight. So if I go up to that "red flag" number, I'll go back to basics. I'm just writing this out to make it real for me.
This is harder now because I can eat so much more. So when people say, follow the rules and what your doctor tells you during the first year! It does get harder and you need to make sure to develope those good habits the first year.
Best of luck to all my AR buddies!!

Margie,
Wooo Hooooo, doing the happy dance with ya!!!
I used Dr. Baker, and I absolutely love that man!!!!! I am 2 weeks post op and I weighed today for the first time, and I almost fell off of the scales. Ive lost 22 pounds since surgery, and 27 pounds since I saw Dr. Baker on the 31 of January!!! I could not believe it!!! I think the scrap book is a great idea, I may do that, if for no one else but myself, I also took pics the night before, side and front, w/no shirt. We need to stay grounded I believe.
Good luck on everything else.
Rhonda
