How much protein??
Rhonda, the nutritionists based my protein intake to the size of person that I am aiming to be. So, I am getting 60 to 65 gms a day of the protein drink and the protein that I eat is just extra. I like the walmart On brand and only the vanilla. With vanilla, I can make it any flavor that I like by adding peanut butter or fruit or davinci sugar free syrup. I mix it up in soy milk. there are some really expensive protein drinks out there and I have four in my cabinet that I used one time, I always go back to the walmart brand or the one I bought at walmart. It costs like 13 bucks for a huge cannister. the other cost up to 30 bucks and more. If I were you, I'd call my nutritionists and ask her about the protein, but if you can't reach her, I'd start at 60 gms.
Hi Rhonda, how ya' doin'?
"as much as possible" doesn't really give you a lot to go on, does it? My nut told me to strive for 60-80 grams a day, which at first were through protein drinks. At 8 weeks I was supposed to drop from two drinks a day to one and get the balance with food, but my weight loss slowed for a few weeks. I decided (on my own) to up my protein to 80-100 grams a day. Sometimes I have two protein drinks, but I find that one a day supplemented with a latte (made with calorie countdown milk) or Unjury chicken broth does the trick.
How's your new addition to the family doing?
Take care
Susan
Hi Rhonda, how ya doin?
My nut says at least 60 g per day. Some days I only get 60g, some days (not very often) I may be a couple of grams short. Here lately, I've been getting closer to 70g. I've given up the protein shake, sort of. I get my protein from food and milk and sometimes add a half a scoop of protein powder to my milk and that does it for me. I'd shoot for 60 g a day. If you can drink milk, that's a good way to get protein and fluids and calcium at the same time. I never drank milk before surgery, now I practically live on it. The Calorie Countdown milk that Susan mentioned is really good.
Good luck and let us know if you have anymore questions, we're here to help!
Take care,
