Question about AR Dr's...

I am new and looking to have the Lap band surgery soon. I see several Dr's listed in posts here, has anyone been to to Dr. Luttrell? Any Dr. recomendations would help in figuring out who to go to. There are so many questions, and I can't wait for my seminar in early March. Thanks!!!

Hi Susan O! Dr. Gibbs does the lap band. He is with The Surgical Center of Central Arkansas in Little Rock. He did my lap RNY and he is wonderful...and so is his staff. He holds a seminar once a month, I think, at Baptist in Little Rock. I highly recommend him, but I know there are other doctors in the area that are just as good. Dr. Gibbs just recently started doing lap bands, so you might want to see someone a little more experienced with that particular procedure. But I still highly recommend him...I don't believe he would offer the procedure if he weren't confident in his abilities to perform it. Good luck with your search, let us know what you decide! I went to every seminar in Little Rock! Dr. Gibbs has a rep as an awesome surgeon. The only problem I had with him is that it is apparent that he prefers RNY or really anything but the band. In his seminar, I asked him, twice, how many lap bands he had done and he skirted the question and never directly answered. I ended up going with Dr. Wellborn at St. Vincent (also a COA) because he has done I think over 700 and I knew that he would have the expertise that I needed and also know how to remedy problems better being the #1 lap band (er) :-). Yes, I really liked him. He was the only one that was "real". His office staff are very patient and friendly. I haven't really had any after care yet. My two week follow up is on the 29th. I haven't had any problems at all tho'. I feel good and am healing well!

Susan, I used Dr. Baker for lap RNY, but I have a cousin that used Dr. Luttrell for the lap band back in May and has done wonderful. She has lost 80 + pounds and is doing great. He has been very thorough with her and has been great to answer all of her questions as well as her families questions. Good luck, and happy hunting, we are here for you no matter what. Thanks to you both for the info.. It seems since I decided to give up the "I'll diet tomorrow" rollercoaster, I have even more questions. I'm anxious to get going on this but I want to make sure its the right center, right Dr.. etc. I already have a page of questions for the Doctor I choose- anything I should be sure and ask before choosing the surgeon? I tend to clam up around Doctors.... Funny cos I have no problem talking otherwise!! :-) I have a seminar appt on March 7 with Luttrell... I may go see a few more but I'm in school and live an hour out of the city so hopefully my first "choice" will work out. thanks again!! Susan

i'm with you susan, i'm tired of the diet rollercoster too. there are so many questions. i'm still looking for answers too, i'm so scared of making a mistake i hope and pray all goes well for you. i went to dr. luttrell's seminar and have met with him and have surgery scheduled for the 12th of march. it all went very fast for me. his seminar was informative. he answered questions in my consultation meeting. good luck to you on your journey. trish

Hello, I had Lap Band surgery on December 26, 2006. Dr. Luttrell was my surgeon and he was wonderful. I am eight weeks post-op and I have lost 35 pounds. I have recommended him to several people. My sister also had surgery by Dr. Luttrell and had the same excellent results. He spends alot of time with you at your office visits and is very understanding. I had a complicated surgery because I had severe scar tissue from a failed Vertical Band Gastroplasty ten years ago. He was willing to do what ever was necessary to do the surgery. He did an awsome job on removing all the scar tissue (he took pictures before and after of the scar tissue). I hope this helps. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Good luck! Crystal
