iron
hello on this freezing wednesday.........how is everyone? i am ok...over the sticker shock of the twins (new boobs) finally. ins wont cover it...cosmetic.....i guess boobs down to your knees is ok in the ins world.
i have two items i would like to let ya'll in on.....
#1... there is a line of credit ya'll can apply for in the future for things like lifts and implants and so on...go to.... carecredit.com.....only certain dr.'s take it and you usually only get a percentage of what you applied for. it is worth looking into.
#2....iron....we all know what iron does to our digestive system..constipation...yes water consumption helps...but i have found an iron supplement that is easy on the stomach and does not really have those constipating issues....well i take one you can get at walgreens...it is expensive...but it works....FERRO SEQUELS....i take 3 a day. and have no issues.
ok so anyhow......i am about to freeze. i am at work. so i will check back later.
take care my friends......tammy
Thanks for the information Tammy. I'm sure my insurance won't pay for my PS, but I'll try anyway! My surgeon said that if you have rashes, skin problems that they might. In the heat I have gotten yeast infections under my breasts. He told me to take pictures and tell my PCP whenever it happens so it can be documented. Did you have any problems?
I'm freezing too. I have on boots and two pairs of socks and my feet are still popsicles! I think my feet and hands stay the most cold. I used to love cold weather and never wore a coat (unless my DH badgered me to do it!). But since my surgery... I keep a jacket with me all the time!! I wear coats, scarves, gloves, longjohns and layers and layers of clothing! Buuuuurrrrrrrr and they weather says we may get snow this weekend!
Have a good day at work...heck it's almost time to leave now! Talk to you soon.

I had rashes before RNY.....but yes document everything. insurance is tricky. but if it is well documented and your dr is on your side you will have better luck and you can appeal denials as well. the sagging skin that causes the rashes and infections is not healthy so ins my see it as a health problem. especially when some of us weight loss patients encounter the sagging tummy called an apron. I am not bragging but I look like I have just had a baby. people are amazed when they find out i used to weigh 233 on my 5ft tall frame. every body heals and shrinks differently. good luck on this topic.
as for freezing....you body has lost the one thing we all hate....FAT....it was insulation. BUT thyroid issues will cause the chill as well as anemia, which we all tend to encounter. are you taking an iron supplement? I have had to increase mine to 3 iron supps a day per my dr. I am not as cold as I used to be in the first 1-2 years post op. have you had your thyroid checked? I have learned to dress in layers. you can always remove a layer if you get too warm. in my office I use my space heater until about june.
being this far post op (5yrs) I have noticed several things that are no nos....alcohol...ummm i can not even be a social drinker...i get drunk on nyquil for petes sake. smells....oh my goodness....buffets and cracker barrell...the smells are so strong they make me very sick to my stomach. the smell of cake....sometimes pictures of cake make me very ill.....apples....cant eat but one bite....milk....lactose intolerant now.....only with drinking milk...cheese and other dairy I am ok with.
anyhow, I shall close this novel I am writing to you and allow you to ask me questions or tell me more about your experiences. I only use the computer at work....no access at home. but I am here for anyone and everyone. It is the least I can do if I cant make the meetings.
ok talk to you later,
tammy
You're right about the thyroid issue. I do have hypothyroidism and I've been on medicine for several years. My iron levels (so far) have been normal. I think it's the loss of the fat that keeps me cold!
I don't have much of a problem with odors. Occasionally something will make me ill if I smell it. Some pictures of food (especially greasy food) makes me sick feeling. For the most part I'm okay.
Early on, bananas would make me sick, but most other fruit I could tolerate. Now I can eat bananas again. I have a little skim milk on my cereal and eat cheese but so far no problem with that. I did have a short time where it bothered me early after my WLS.
Alcohol is not something I do very often. I had some over the holidays and sometimes when a group of girlfriends go out I may have some. It takes very little to make me drunk and it can make me sick too. I prefer to stick to water. I just love water!
As for the height/weight, I am 2 1/2 inches taller than you, but I weighed 100 lbs more when I had my WLS. I understand about that part of it. You have done wonderful in your WL and maintaining it. I am at almost a year postop so I have the hunger and I'm having to have more willpower. I have focused on good nutrition and eating right since my surgery and now I'm so glad that I did. I think it has made it somewhat easier to make the right choices now. Don't get me wrong, I still make bad choices! Just not to the extent I did prior to WLS. I'm not super strict on myself because an occasional treat is good for the soul. It just needs to be in a small amount and adjusted for in other areas... like more exercise.
Well, I gotta get to work so I can get out of here soon! Have a great day tomorrow!
