Post op people..What did you first try for a solid
Hi Geri,
What kind of guidelines did your doc/nut give you? Was pureed or soft foods since there is a difference.
Soft foods I ate were: cottage cheese, sf, ff yogurt, nf or lf cheese, oatmeal, lf soups made with skim milk, whole wheat crackers, whole wheat pasta, potatoes-no skin, mac and cheese--made from scratch with ff milk, brown rice, canned fruit-no sugar added, mashed bananas, melon, applesauce or apples without peels, canned veggies, soft cooked fresh veggies, poached eggs, tuna (water packed),, chicken or ham salad made with ff mayo.
This list came from my diet guidelines from my doc's office.
Hope it helps.
i had my surgery on a monday....went sightseeing on sunday in maine and at that time I ate two small bites of a baked potatoe and some baby food. On monday one week after surgery i scrambled an egg in the micro flame per my dr. every dr has a different plan ...also depends on the person as well. i see so many changes in how the suregries are now and the post op diets. 25 years ago my ex father in law had it done and his diet was baby food for several weeks. best bet is to consult your doc and nutritionist.
Geri, every surgeon is different. I was on liquids for six weeks post op and only got to add cottage cheese and refried beans after six weeks. I am almost four months out and am still not allowed fresh anything nor any beef, pork, or chicken. I can eat baked fish. So, it is entirely up to your surgeon, however, proceed with caution. I think for first chew foods, oatmeal and cream of wheat were my most tolerable. But everyone differs. I got sick on refried beans, so be careful and make sure that the ones you eat do not have fat in them. Taco bell's are easy on me. Good luck.
well, i am not totaly sure, they gave me cream of wheat in the hospital...l started having oatmeal, cream of wheat, puddings clear soups, from day 1.. this past weekend l added creamed soups, cottage cheese, and I am thinking l can have food starting this coming weekend..I can call them, but they never get back to me...it says in my packet it is now what you eat it is how you eat it, and why..nothing has bothered me yet...l dont know..geri
When I could eat a little more solid food... at about 6 weeks post-op, the things I could tolerate well were chicken salad (homemade and finely minced chicken), cottage cheese, yogurt and Wendy's chilli. I couldn't eat a whole lot of any of it, but those were the things I could USUALLY tolerate. It's different for everyone and every doctor/nutritionist has a different plan (you'll only here that about a million times!). Anyway, check with yours and best of luck to you!!!
