NEW to Arkiesaw- & have questions

I tacked an AR in the front of Kansas, & went south! Have yet to get established with a new dr. here. My dr. in Kansas would not give me a recommendation for lapband surgery after I lost 70 pounds, because she said that showed I could lose it if I really put my mind to it! I have gained probably half of it back. I am near Hot Springs now, so if anyone has any helpful suggestions or such- I sure would welcome them! thanks a bunch! (am seeing a new dr. tomorrow. talked to a lady in the laundry mat who gave me her dr. name, but she had g.b., and I want lapband. She said they started lapband on her, and she was too short. They told her that her stomach was too compressed? Does this happen a lot? Am looking forward to hearing from y'all!

hi there. Sounds like you need to find another surgeon... What is the difference between lap band and RNY?

The difference between lapband and RNY is that lapband is an adjustable band they put around the stomach to make it smaller. RNY they go in and separate the stomach and reroute the intestine. Hope that helps. MOM

Dr. Mark Gibbs does GB and lapband. He's in LR. Isn't HS great?

Dr Baker in Little Rock did mine...incredible surgeon. Great staff.... Good luck with your decision. I'm making great progress with my band...I'm healthy and happy I did this....!!!!

Today was first app't. with new doctor... she really did not do anything at all. She would not sign my disabled placard form, so I can get a placard. She said she would not give me a referral for any kind of weight loss surgery until I could prove that I can listen to a doctor. I came away with the feeling of "if you do not listen and obey, I will not be your doctor." And that she was more interested with other things than me. Her demeanor was condescending towards me... how I felt when I came out of there anyhow. I have another app't. next Friday- after all the labs have came back, after she has read the xrays, and the ekg strip, and made sure I have had the mammogram.At the app't. she thinks I have to have a pap... she is in for a surprise, won't do it.,(*pls no lectures about the importance of them, I know... it is a bad thing for me...relates back to much abuse) I don't think she is going to be the dr. for me.

dear Suzanne.....your dr in Kansas does not understand endogenous obesity !!!!! We've ALL lost large amts of weight only to gain it back and more. My surgeon is Mark Gibbs in Little Rock. I think very highly of him (I'm an RN) His technique is apparently superb since he's had excellent results with his surgeries and no complications that I have found. I am 9 wks out and lost 41 lbs. He has an open forum at the end of each month where he gives all the info you could possibly need. You'll like him......he's warm and pleasant. His office staff is all business and are very good at what they do. They'll help get approvals, etc. Never give up !!!!!! Smiles.....Elizabeth (RNY 7/24/06)
