I am not usually a wine drinker but I will be attending an international dinner party tomorrow evening and wine will be served.

Any idea what types are lowest in sugar?
White/Red/Merlot/Sauvignaon Blanc/Reisling ?

Girl!  This is a subject I know well!  You want to stick to the drier wines-red or white.

Reds:  Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot
Whites:  Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay

Have fun and be careful with wine--I get drunker on wine than I do hard liquor!

well, aren't you just the wine connoisseur?  I was told NO ALCOHOL of any sort, shape form or fashion by my expertise of a doctor.  Nearly 9 years later and he still sticks by this GOLDEN RULE.

I have always been told also no alcohol by my doctor and have also heard the same thing at all the seminars that I have ever attended.    It just really worries me when the gastric bypass patient drinks because of the problems you can have with the liver.  With the small amount of stomach we now have it dumps more quickly into the liver and we now have more of a problem with liver damage.

It concerns me even more that the number of gastric bypass patients that continue to drink and start drinking more and more, thus causing cross addiction (food for alcohol).  The cons are far more greater than pros where this issue is concerned.  Why take the risk, especially after going thru such evasive surgery to lost weight.  Alcohol is nothing but pure sugar no matter how you look at it.  Someone that is offered alcohol as a social function can always decline and ask for water or tea instead.  There should be no problems for saying a simple "NO"!  I just don't understand.

My doctor allows ocassional social drinking after the 1st year.  I pesonally am not worried about transfer addiction as I have never had any addiction-food, alcohol, nicotine or otherwise.

I appreciate everyones insight on the issue-and will continue to do what is best for me.

I can also handle the sugar content in alcohol although I dump on too much of any.  Alcohol is something I enjoy and not planning on totally eliminating from my lifestyle.

I have been lucky and not suffered from regain as a lot of people who don't drink alcohol has.

I don't think anything in moderation is going to do you damage. Best I can remember my doctor said live your life and don't be on a "diet" forever.

Go and enjoy.
