Blood Sugar dropped.....Ugh....
Today, while shopping with my hubby, daughter and grandson, I slowly began to feel weak. Then my knees started to buckle up underneath me....my daughter and grandson was all the way on the other side of the store and my husband and I was walking along together. He was on the phone with a man that had found his brother's cell phone and was trying to find someone to return it to for him. I silently slide to the side of the isle and went completly down to the floor. I was sitting there, leaning on a display, feeling like I was going to slip into unconsiousness if someone didn't help me fast. My husband was oblivious to me sitting there in the floor as he continued his telephone conversation. FINALLY, he realized what was going on (I had an episode last night as well) and came to my aid. He didn't know what to do for me and I really couldn't talk. Several people walked up and he told them I was diabetic and was having a weak spell. A sweet older lady said, "she needs some orange juice, I'll go get her some and be right back"! Thank God for that sweet sweet lady, Kyle called Holly, our daughter and new nurse and she came running with Christian in tow. She asked Daddy where my glucose tablets were and he didn't even know what she was talking about. She finally found them in my purse and gave me a couple of them, then the sweet lady returned with the OJ. I sat in that floor for 20 min. and finally a sales clerk came by and asked if I needed assistance. Wow, 20 minutes, REALLY? By that time I was feeling better and Kyle and Holly both picked me up out of the floor. It was a scarey scarey episode and again, later this afternoon, I had another one in the van. Finally we got a proper meal and I've been a lot better.
I urge you, if you are diabetic, please wear your ID bracelet wherever you go and keep glucose tabs with you at all times. You never know when you might need them.
All these episodes in such a short time, bring back memories of our sweet Donna here on OH a few years back. She was a bad diabetic and had episodes like this often. She's gone on to be with the Lord now, God rest her soul. Diabetics, please, please, please take care of yourselves and check your BS often. See your Dr. on your regularly scheduled visits. This is nothing to take lightly or let go. I am quite concerned since have 3 episodes in less than a 24 hour period. I have my BS monitor in my purse, my ID bracelets on hand. (I've had several different bracelets to go on my ID, made by my wonderful neighbor. ) God bless her, she's a sweet catholic girl and she made me a rosary Pray bracelet with a breast cancer awareness charm and a St. Agatha *****presents breast cancer, nurses and a couple other things. I love it so much. It's done in pale pink pearls and it's just gorgeous. I have looked up the rosary prayer and honestly, it's a really good pray. There are the 10 beads and a break in the middle and then there are 10 more beads. It's a lovely piece of jewelry. IF you know anyone look for a rosary, please let me know and I will hook you up with her. She has a website somewere. I've just got to get it from her. Good luck and God Bless
I have had some of those spells too , one recently at the grocery store. A few months ago I saw my regular physician and she got a consult from the Dr handling blood sugar issues. I have never been diagnosed with Diabetes but have hypoglycemia. My Dr said because of my gastric bypass this happened.
and they are seeing this more in gastric bypass pts So now I have the tablets with me all the time and peanut butter seems to help if I have them at home. I am almost 8 years out from my bypass. Thanks for your post this am. we all need to stay well and safe. Take care and I hope you are feeling better soon.
