If I lose any more weight, my BMI will be too low for approval

Hi everybody,

I went for my appointment today with my nutritionist and found out that if I lose any more weight, my BMI will be too low for approval by my insurance company.  My BMI was 42.2.  Today, it was 40.8.  My BMI needs to be at least 40.  I have 16 weeks until my tentative surgery date.

This just sort of bummed me out.

Any advice?

Verify with your insurance if they use the original BMI, or the current one....I can see them using this as an item to "weed people out".......I'll tell you this (and I'm not too proud to say this) if they use the current BMI....START EATING!!  Do not let it drop below 40!!

Keep us posted.

I'd be checking too to see which BMI they are going to go by.  How much weight have you lost on your own??

Hi Debbie,

I have lost only 8 lbs. on my own.

Probably not the best advice, but I ate like a horse to make sure I met!!!!!
Doughnuts and DQ Bliaards were daily staples for me for a few weeks......

Leslie,

At the grocery store yesterday, I bought brownie bites, Twinkies, and Hostess cupcakes, LOL.  I felt so bad for buying them!

The nutritionist and the surgeon's office staff said, "Don't gain any weight!"  I am going to try to just maintain and not gain, but I definitely do NOT want to lose any more right now.

PLUS, I do have Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up, and my mama cooks GOOD!!!!!  :O)

If I do happen to gain weight, would they deny my surgery because I gained?
