Hungry? Satisfied? Full? Stuffed?
OK - so what do these words mean to you? We hear "eat until you are satisfied" all the time, but since I was banded, I've been really trying to figure out what these mean to me.
As a newbie, I hope I have a good outlook on these, and wanted to know what ya'll thought.
What is your definition of these? I would especially like to hear from the lap-band veterans!
Hungry - I have begun really waiting for signs of physical hunger, which I assume is when your stomach begins to growl. Then, I try to eat soon enough after that so that I don't get CRAZY HUNGRY (which could be it's own category hahaha) and want to eat bad things or fast things or too much.
Satisfied - This is where I get hung up. Mentally, it takes a lot to satisfy me, however, I've been turning that thought process off and focusing on physical satisfaction. But, I am not sure I know what it is for me yet. I think it might be different for everyone. Is satisfaction a feeling of being full or is it something before you get to "full"?
Full - This is how I feel after lunch today. I'm full. I ate everything on my plate (I had to eat out for lunch because it was a lunch meeting - it was a small chicken & cheese quesadilla - since I am newly banded, I do not have lots of restriction, so I'm sure that in the future I won't be able to eat even that much), I am not in the least miserable - not even approaching that, but I have a sense of fullness and I feel like I know that I won't need to eat again until dinner time. Is this bad? Is being full something that we shouldn't feel anymore?
Stuffed - I haven't felt this way since well before I was banded. I have, and I am sure many of you have, eaten way too much and felt a little (or a lot) miserable after a meal. And continued to eat just for the mental pleasure rather than because I physically needed it. This, I know is a no-no and I have never felt uncomfortably full since I have been banded.
I eat slowly, chew well, and I rarely snack. I follow the water rules too! I'm going to post this in the Lap-Band board too, so that I can get the Lap-Band view from it too!

Hopefully the banders can give you some insight specific to the band. For me, at this point in the journey, I know exactly how many bites I can take before I cross the line......in the first year, I measured everything out, and that was all I got. Now, some days I can eat a little more, but I really cannot eat a whole lot at a meal....I think where I could get into trouble (if I fell into the habit) is grazing....you know, every hour eating something. I do eat 6 times a day so I can't say I ever feel hunger--not that I have since my surgery (at least not the rumbling stomach, oh God I've got to eat or gnaw my arm off feelings).
I have on occasion eaten too much and felt miserable....I try to stop after a few bites (put my fork down) and then after a few minutes if I'm still hungry I'll eat a few more bites of meat.
