Hello!

Before I congratulate you on your commitment I want to say KUDOS to your Psychiatrist for recognizing you have head issues and is helping you deal with it before the surgery.

With that said I believe he/she should not keep you from having the life saving procedure if you can't overcome the issues BEFORE surgery.  Sometimes it takes getting on the other side of the surgery and having the forced inability to eat as much or certain types of food to help us get the weight off.

Counseling and psycho therapy during that time I feel can help a stress eater deal while they still have the severe restrictions that come with the new surgery.  This changes the further out from surgery you get.  If you don't deal with them before you get to where you can start testing the water and learning what more you can eat, that's when the weight gain can start back.  Please read my response to Hilary on Have you seen a Counselor?

NOW, IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE DOING GREAT AND ARE GOING TO BE ABLE TO BEAT THE STRESS EATING BEFORE THE SURGERY!!!  CONGRATULATIONS!

I wish you the best.  Kim is an example of how well you can do when you start before the surgery by making the changes you will be required to make after the surgery.  Things like taking small bites of your food and chewing it until it is almost liquid before  swallowing; not drinking from 30 minutes before your meals, during your meals and until 30 minutes after your meals; giving up carbonated drinks; quit if you smoke; and start some form of exercising.

Keep us informed...you are doing great and will be a success!!

Christ's peace,
