My 1st Experience eating away from home

So, this weekend we are going up to Huntsville to the Space & Rocket center to see the Star Wars exhibit :) Nerdy, YES! :)

But, this will be my first experience eating away from home. I hope it goes well. I have the will-power not to eat things I shouldn't, but I just hope I can find good choices.

Especially in the protein area since I am still only on pureed/soft foods...
I'm not sure I want to lug along a protein shake since we will only be going overnight, but I guess I could take my shaker bottle and some powder just in case... If all else fails, I can mix it with water and shake it up just to get the protein. But, I guess eggs & skim milk is another option... maybe we'll go somewhere that always serves b'fast...

It'll be interesting. Any suggestions?

:)

You'll be fine--you can always go to Subway and get tuna salad--or any Publix deli--they have hummus, tuna salad, chicken salad, egg salad, hard boiled eggs--or pick up some cheese/lunch meat.  Mexican restaurants should have black bean soup on the menu.

Greek yogurt is a quick grab too from any supermarket.

Have fun!

Auburn just recently got a Publix - I need to go check out their Deli for my weekly lunch options when I need something quick.

Speaking of Mexican, I could always do that little beans & cheese cup that Taco Bell has too.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I was anxious abuot eating out for the first few times.   I think you are doing a great job pre-planning.

IHOP was one of my picks.   Could always get a scrambled egg.   Wendy's chili was a fast meal for me too.   And most restaurants have a soup option!

I would definitely take a shake and/or protein bar to use as a backup.  Better to have it than not.

Enjoy!

That is true. Most of the big restaurants have a soup option that is smooth and would go down easily.
I think I will take some protein powder measured out in a container. That way I'm good no matter what.

Thanks!

My family and I are going to be in Huntsville this weekend too.  Tonight, we are going to see Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton in concert.  We are so excited!

Athens is just a hop skip and jump from Huntsville :) My dad worked in Athens when I lived in North Alabama...

Hope you have a great Labor Day! :)

How did eating away from home go for you?

It went pretty well, I think!

Our first stop was lunch in B'ham. My husband wanted to go to Macaroni Grill because we don't have one of those here, so I said sure...I was certain I'd find something.

I found the soup menu and got the Almalfi Chicken Soup (or something like that). It was good! It had about 4 or 5 little cheese filled pastas in it and lemon zest. Great flavor. I looked up the calories later and it was kind of high for a clear broth soup, but still under 450 calories.

I had broccoli cheese soup that night for dinner. We were at O'charley's and I ate a roll too. I confess.... LOL  It was heavenly. I figured it was just one, and just this once, so what the heck. It was the first bread I've had in over a month! It went down just fine in teensy pieces dipped in my soup...but, I have very little restriction wtih no liquid in my band yet.

For breakfast the next morning I picked up some cottage cheese at wal-mart and put it in the room refridgerator. I had that and about 1/2 of the low-carb slim fast I brought. It was the first time having the low-carb variety ( I didn't know they existed!), but they taste terrible to me and I could not fini****! I got some skim milk from the lobby too.

Then we went to Chedders for lunch. I had the vegtable plate.  I got chicken tortilla soup and got out all the chicken I could find and then had a few bites of each of the vegtables.

I think I did OK. I didn't have as much protein as I probably should have, but I still have to stick to pretty soft foods....

The main thing is that I did NOT over-eat. That was my fear...that I would keep eating, but I didn't. I could still stop when "satisfied" even though I had more tempting foods in front of me than normal.

You did absolutely fabulous!
I remember I was moody and anxious when I first would go out....especially if I struggled to find something I could eat.....and I would get mad at myself if I forgot to bring my own......LOL
I am over all that now!

Glad things went well.   You're off to a great start!
