Gastric bypass gall stones and kidney stones

Hi My husband had bypass surgery 9.5 months ago. Since his surgery his health seems to be deteriorating through no fault of his own.  Were any of you warned of gall stones and kidney stones? Was your gall bladder removed at the time of your bypass? He's lost weight too quickly 140 pounds in 9 months. He did really well at first but as time went on his ability to hold ANY thing done gets worse. He's now had surgery for kidney stones and another to remove his gall bladder with a golf ball sized stone 2 weeks ago. We had such high hopes this would end the vomiting. It hasn't. We are still waiting for his most recent test results taken 2 days ago.  We have now been to 3 Dr.s trying to find a reason for the vomiting. Dr. Malipur did the bypass but never even warned us about the possible medical complications following the surgery. In the last 5 days I swear he has developed and odor of body deteritation, and I don't mean body odor. He showers every single day sometimes twice a day.I swear he smells like he'd dying and I am extremly worried. After more than 30 years of marriage this is the first time I feel helpless to help him.

Gallstones and gallbladder removal are fairly common after WLSurgery.   Some surgeons even remove the gallbladder at the same time as the bypass; others don't want to add to the recovery time, so they leave it.  I had stones, but they didn't remove it b/c I had no symptoms.  Took me 6 yrs to have to have it removed.     Kidney stones are common, also, from what I understand.    You might also ask about H.Pylori (sp?).

Any kind of surgery is such a stress on the body, and he's been thru 3 in 9.5 months!    His poor body is most likely just trying to recover.   Keep asking questions, and seeking doctors who are experienced with WLS patients.    I'll definitely say a prayer for him.

Having gallbladder problems after any quick weightloss is very common. High protein is hard on the kidneys. That is why he should be drinking lots of water. The water off sets the protein problems.
Have you called his doctor about the odor he is emitting? If not, do so ASAP. Has he been checked for ulcers? Sounds like he probably should be. Has he been checked for a stricture? A scope would check for ulcer and stricture.
Since he is in the process of healing, he needs his protein to help him heal.

Call his doctor today and get him in for an evaluation.
Keep us posted on his health.
Hugs. It is difficult to feel helpless when our loved one is hurting.

I would definitely be keeping my doctor busy with visits or phone calls.  I had my gallbladder out several years before my surgery.  I do have a problem with kidney stones but was experiencing that before WLS so I've never attributed it to my surgery.  Have you mentioned the odor to Dr. Malipur or his staff?  Now, I do have an ulcer but even when it's bleeding I don't think I have an odor....at least my husband has never said so.

I do remember that at about 6 months out I had a problem with food getting stuck...especially rice, chicken and beef.  I had to chew extremely well and actually chew more after that.  It did get better without having to go back in to see my doctor.

I wish your husband the best of luck and will be praying for him.  Please let us know what the tests reveal.
