Regain Questions

OK.  I know that a lot of WLS patients regain.  That is my worst fear and I have a few questions:

For those of you that have re-gained, how far out from surgery were you when you started re-gaining?

Did you reach goal weight before regain?

How much did you regain?

Have you lost those extra lbs, and if so, how long did it take?

I am trying to maintain and DO NOT want to regain.   Any advice to maintaining?

Thanks and sorry if these questions appear to be invasive.

Leslie, I didn't reach my ideal goal but I did reach one of the goals I had.  I started putting weight back on probably going on year 4. I probably regained about 35 pounds. It would bounce around depending on how I ate and what I ate.  I was able to get all of it back off and it took me about a year but I was going through chemo and just had no appetite.  I have gained a little of it back this past year but not much and I'm working diligently to get it back off.  This will be a lifelong process.  I would tell anyone to follow the rules.  It's that simple.  If you decide to drink soda's and eat carbs then be prepared for the results that follow.  If you want to maintain or lose then go back to the basics we learned at the beginning of our WL journey.

You can do it girl.

I am 2 1/2 years out and I just recently gained 20 lbs. back.  It was ALL because I was eating junk and not exercising at all.  As long as you stay on track, you should be fine.  I have cut out the snacking and "grazing" and am slowly losing it.  It doesn't seem to be as hard to lose this time, at least that is my experience.  I definitely WILL have it all off before cruise day!  (Feb 2011).

Good for your for getting back on track so quickly.
I do think it is key to stick to the diet and exercise program.  I know they told us it is a complete lifestyle change.....that doesn't really hit home until you have to do it.
Thanks for posting and have a great cruise!
