Bye Bye Gallbladder
I am 9 years out and can honestly say I did not have the first complication or problem from my VBG. Recently I began vomiting nearly everything I ate and having extreme chest pains. I gained several pounds which concerned the surgeon.
After 3 weeks of poking, prodding and testing I am headed back to surgery. My gallblader has stopped functioning due to sludge. I also have a hiatal hernia and a stage 2 erosion. NONE and I repeat NONE of this is related to my VBG.
I am scheduled for surgery on Aug 6th which can't get here soon enough. My surgeon, Dr. Culver, wanted to do it sooner but he has a sister with terminal cancer and flew to California to visit her.
Anybody ever had gallbladder sludge?????

I'm a sludger!! I let my gallbladder get so bad till it had effected my liver functioning. I was jaundice - had lost about 50 lbs and was pregnant at the same time. I couldn't eat, threw up when I did and hurt to the point of hyperventilating more than once. I made several trips to the ER for the pain before having that rascal removed. This was all before my WLS. I had the old fashioned surgery - cut me open from under my breastplate to my belly button. I had tubes inserted that I took home with me. When they removed the J tube (I think is was a J tube) I nearly went through the roof from the pain. Flesh had grown around the tube and they had to literally yank and pull to get it out. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks.
You are going to feel so much better when that baby comes out.

Hello there my friend. Before WLS I said gallbladder surgery was the best surgery I ever had. I had mine when my oldest was 8 weeks old. They had to do emergency surgery on me because I did not go to the hospital soon enough. I thought no one could take care of my baby and I had to put him before myself. I almost left him for someone to take care of forever. Gangreen (I don't know how to spell that!!) had started and the Dr. said a few more hours and I would have died. Like DebbieDoo I had the surgery where I was cut from stem to stern. I had tubes coming out of everywhere. I did not ask about my baby from Sunday until Thursday. I didn't know I was in the world.
I am glad you are having it done before you get to that point. I had stones though. They gave them to me in a baby food jar. They looked like acorns. From what people say the surgery now is so much easier. A few little holes and home the same day!!!
Please have someone post and let us know how our friend is doing!!!
