Question? Carb vs Protein?

Im really confused. Im trying so hard to make a lifestyle change and start eating the way i was suppose to from the beginning. After this week i'll go to adding meats and stuff into my day but for now im on liquids/cottage cheese/yogurt/sf jello. Wellll. im wondering how many carbs do YOU eat a day? What about protein? when i plugged in my eating for today i had 83 proteins and 44 carbs or something. I thought we were suppose to keep our carbs under 50 SO how am i ever going to do this when im actually EATING food? I dont know where i come up with keeping carbs under 50 but i know i read it somewhere. Anywho, what do YOU do? Also, for those that track your food, what about your fat grams per day?

I eat 1500-1800 calories a day with a goal of 40% of them coming from protein (I often only get in the 30% range)--the rest is carbs and fats.....it really depends on the types of carbs you eat--keep to whole grains, fruit, veggies, nuts, beans and dairy--you don't want the carbs you consume to be simple--you want complex carbs.

This is working for me to maintain where I am--and I am more liberal on the weekends....I don't journal food on the weekend (but I do religiously M-F) and I allow myself a few "adult beverages".....and maybe a few bites of "bad stuff" like dessert or a cookie.  For me it is about moderation.....and if I do over-indulge, I spend extra time working out.

Hilary I will be 7 years out next month and I for one can not do the 60 to 75 gms of protein per day.  I have always been told protein first and if you have room add some veggies.   If you are doing baked, broiled, grilled meats I would not really worry about counting fats.

 I am only 8 months out and shhhhhh....don't really follow my surgeons rules.  I still drink 3-4 protein drinks a day as I am not a great eater.  I don't count anything, I just make sure I get in enough protein, hence the drinks and try not to eat any white carbs.  I strive to get any carbs I may eat from veggies and fruits.  But then last night my dd made homemade biscuits, I had one and promptly fell asleep!!  Learned my lesson....LOL.

Oh yeah and I eat real fats.
