Welcome to the Board Karenda!! I know how excited you must be. I can still remember what it felt like when I got my date for RNY. We wish you the best and come on back and hang out with us. We're trying to get the board more active. We used to really be booming but things got kind of quiet for a while. Maybe we can pour some life back in. I'm looking forward to hearing from Sally Sue the Clown!

EVERY surgeon/insurance is different. I was not required to lose any weight on the 6 month supv diet (good thing because I did not!) nor was I required to do any liquid diet before my surgery. I only had to do the "bowel prep" the day before (another lovely topic you'll learn about, really no big deal). My surgeon also does not recommend protein supplements of any kind, he gets you back on real food ASAP.
Just do what your surgeon says, follow the rules of your insurance TO THE LETTER and you'll be fine--this board is the best resource for getting good information.

Oh my gosh, I didn't think about the first vist not counting. Bummer. Well I called Heather at Dr Galloway's office. She informed me also about that. I also have an apointment with Dr Spinker for head shrinking LOL. on August 23rd. Then I get to go the the thingy at Mobile Infirmary for the day class. Heather also confirmed that I did not have to loose weight before the surgery. I am just so glad to be on my way. After November 12th is when I can have the surgery as long as I keep my apointments. I am so excited!!
Hi Karenda,
Welcome to the Bama Board. My name is Connie or Teal Rose. I live in Chickasaw and work in Mobile. I had my surgery almost six years ago at Mobile Infirmary with Dr. Steve Weinstein.
Congratulations...remember that your six months is actually 7 doctor visits. They don't count that first visit. Go and find the profile of Sweet Bama. She had to go through the six months of visits as did others. You do not want to be denied by Blue Cross because of one doctor visit. The first one doesn't count because it takes the second visit to equal one month, the third will equal two months, got it? You have to be really careful. Please don't hesitate to ask questions on this board. These ladies and gentlemen will help you any way they can.
I had my surgery just before they started all the qualifications they have now. I only had to prove I had been morbidly obese for 3 or more years. That was easy. I was 309lbs on the day of my surgery and had not been under 287 for many years. I am now 185 lbs and stay between 175 and 185.
If I can be of help, just let me know. You're in for the ride of your life...and yes, you will have to make changes but they are changes that the surgery helps you to make. You are being given a tool that will be with you for the rest of your life to help you to lose your excess weight and keep it off. Good luck.
