12I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13I can do everything through him who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:12-13)
Paul is telling us that he knew what it was to be rich and to be poor. He had also learned to be content in every situation, no matter how good or how bad. The secret was that he knew where His strength came from and Who would bring him through everything. I know that at times, I have struggled longer than I had to because I had to learn "the secret" of being content. I had to realize that as long as I gripped, as long as I talked about others who had more than I did and was envious or jealous, as long as I complained about the issues that plagued my life, and as long as I murmurred and complained, I sure was not content and delayed God from being able to work in my life. Once I stopped doing this and just sat and waited on God, I learned contentment. I hear people today who are living in fear. They are afraid of things that are going on in their local, state and national government. Be content...God is in control...there is not one thing to worry about. Trust God and while you are waiting, help someone else.
