surgery on Monday, kind of scared

Hi Everyone,

I haven't posted much but I've been working towards getting gastric bypass, which I'm now scheduled for on Monday.  I saw my doctor last Tuesday, he put me on a liquid diet and gave me notes saying that I have to be on a clear liquid diet tomorrow and I have to drink two bottles of Magneisium Citrite ( I know I totally screwed up that spelling) at 2pm tomorrow.

I still have a lot of questions, but there is one thing I'm worried about.  Yesterday i kind of fell off the wagon, so to speak, I was doing really well with the liquid diet for the first few days, but yesterday I just couldn't seem to get rid of the hunger and I eventually talked myself into eating.  Today I did the liquid diet but I had a small sandwich instead of the last shake, I'm sure the calorie count was the same, but I worry that by not following the liquid diet I may be doing somethign that could cause problems when I have my surgery.  I feel like such an idiot now for doing this, do you think I should try postponing my surgery?  I just don't know how important sticking to a liquid diet before the surgery is.

As for other questions, first, what can I have when they say clear liquid diet?  I just want to make sure I don't eat anything that I'm not supposed to.  My husband is planning to take me to the hospital and stay there, do you know how long I should tell him he'll probably be waiting?

Finally, is there any advice/suggestions that any of you might have?

Thank you!

The best thing is to pick yourself up and go on.  Stick to that liquid tomorrow no matter how bad you want to eat.  You should be fine.  The mag citrate will take care of that last little food you ate.  Now for the clear liquid anything like broth, tea, koolade, jello no red,  if you can not see thru it then it is t clear.  After you get in the operating room  the surgery if lap should take less than an hour.  Who is your surgeon and what hospital will you be having your surgery?
Best of luck with your surgery and let us hear from you.

Do not be scared, the chances of you having complications are not very high.  Yes, some people die, but some people die from infected toe nails, too.  Your doctor knows what he is doing and we will all be praying for you.  So with your strong support group behind you, that you don't even know most of us...you will be fine.

Now, you can drink bullion...chicken or beef and drink as much as you want..that will curb the hunger.  If you can see through it ...like tea, then it is considered a clear liquid.  Crystal lite, etc.  You can eat chicken noodle soup, but you will have to strain out all the solid stuff.  He doesn't want you to have solids in your stomach or in your intestine, as this may make the surgery more difficult.  So quit cheating and drink the beef or chicken bullion... you can flavor it with other things, if you will strain the solids out of it.

We will all be here when you get back to the computer waiting to hear how you did.

These two ladies have pretty much said it all.  I just wanted to stop in and wish you the best for a sucessful sugery and recovery.  Don't be afraid.  You will do fine.  As they said, though, please stay on that liquid diet today.

I had WLS 4 months ago and still remember all those feelings!!  You'll do great, do like all the others have said. My doc even allowed black coffee if it would help curb your appitite.  Give your Doc a call and find out if that is ok for you.  I didn't cause I can't stand black coffee.
