God wants us to respond to Him out of love and devotion, not because we think we have to do a certain thing to please Him or do good works. When you love someone, you want to find out how to please that person and show them just how much you love them. That is much different from doing things for a person so that the other person might approve of you, like you or even love you. That very same thing is true with God. In our relationship with Him, there should not be anything that we feel we have to do to win God's approval or love. I found out a long long time ago...we can never earn His love or salvation...it is given to us and given freely. It is the greatest gift ever given to man.
