Part of the reason God allows us to experience sorrow and hard times in this life is so that we might learn that God has power to sustain us and provide for us all things that produce earthly blessings and eternal benefits.  All of God's children go through storms in their journeys through life.  It is precisely in the "going-through" stage of any crisis that God's peace is most clearly seen.  When storms begin to rage in your life, praise Him.  Look for that bright shining light that will shine down and clear the storm and make the way.
