Do not be nervous.  The guy that did mine was great.  He asked a few questions about my expectaions, etc.  I had a written (multiple choice) test to take that had hundreds of questions on it.  It was time consuming but painless.  Good luck!

I did not have to do the psych eval (although I think I need one NOW).  But many on the board did have one and I have not heard horror stories so you should do fine.  Good luck and keep us posted!!

I just had mine, Jan. 22.....like you I was very nervous. It was a breeze, I answered 164 yes/no questions and then talked a little about why I  wanted the surgery, etc.! My husband kinda summed it up, I knew as much as he did, I just don'thave the PHD beside my name.  : )

At the end of that multiple choice answer thing I was wondering just how many ways and how many times were they going to ask me if I loved my mother?
Seriously, I got ticked off half way into it thinking here is someone else trying to blame everything on the mom!

Don't sweat the interview...they just ask what you expect and then mine did ask me why I thought I wouldn't gain it back if I had always gained back before.

Now, I don't know much about the Bible questions without looking them up...but psych assessment quesitons, I know a lot about, since I teach this stuff.

The object of the psych eval is to see if you are looking for this for the right reasons. The right reason being improvement of health and lifestyle.  People are not eliminated for having social concerns, depression, or even anger because of the experiences that they have had because of being overweight.  Those things are pretty much expected.

The assessments that they give you are pretty standard ones that assess the degree that being obese has affected you.  None of the ones that they give are used to diagnosis mental illness, but are the ones used to assess normal functioning.  The psychologist or psychiatrist who are really up on their assessment instruments will use some of the questionnaires that are being published as reseach instruments in the Weight Loss literature.  These are just questionnaires that helps to quide their interview.

The object of the assessment is not to keep you from getting the surgery, but rather to help you understand what you may need to do to maintain the weight loss.  Many to most WLS patients suffer from depression. There are several other serious sounding diagnoses that are common, too.  However, these will not keep you from having the procedure.  Identification of these will help you and your doctor to help you maintain your weight loss and to improve your mental health.

The important thing to do is to answer the questions as honestly as you possibly can...and you will be fine.
