If indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ.  (2 Corinthians 2:10)

If God has forgiven us, we should forgive others, forgive ourselves and then open ourselves up to the good opportunities that God has for us.  While we may still have to live with the consequences of our decisions, we are never required by God to live with guilt, shame or regret.  We should accept that our past mistakes may have put us into the situations we are in, but quickly acknowledge that the greater truth is that our past mistakes have been forgiven by God.
