beach vacation

You nice people from Alabama I need some help. Where is the best beach and fishing vacation spots in Alabama? We are planning a family vacation for the first time and we really want it to be special. Not sure Alabama Florida or Bahamas. I have heard Gulf Shores is a good idea. I want grea****er and great beaches. please help

Gulf Shores is beautiful....check out www.gulfshores.com.  Personally, I think anywhere in the Northwest Florida area is beautiful - Ft. Walton, Destin, Panama City, Seaside, Rosemary Beach....I could go on and on.

My family loves Panama City Beach Florida, They have lots of things to do there especially if you have children. The Beach is usually beautiful and clear blue water.

I personally vote for Destin.  There is tons of things for the children to go and see and play if you are not wanting to spend ever day at the beach.  The part that I like best is shopping.  Destin has a huge outlet mall and then you have Destin Common's, I think that is what its called.  Tons of great resturant's if you are not into cooking.

I really want to thank you all. I look forward to wherever we decide to go, to the beautiful sandy beaches and the clear water. I am kinda leaning toward Destin but really want to think about all the other locations before we decide. I haven't traveled much. Ready to start. I also thought about the Bahamas.

I'm an AL girl who lives in Pensacola.  My vote is for Destin, FL!   If you want to fall in love with a beach - that's the place to be for it is absolutely beautiful! 
We go there every Mother's Day weekend for a work related trip (Food Show), and we NEVER get tired of going!

Everyone has great ideas. I personally love Orange Beach. Not only is the beach beautiful but they have a large outlet mall on the main road. Lots of good eating places, shopping places and beautiful beaches. I have been to Destin but believe it or not, I find Orange Beach a little cheaper but just as nice.

Thank you all  for the replies. I really appreciate the help. I really am looking forward to this years vacation. I had the lap band in July 2009 and after following the program since end of May 2009 I have lost total of 90lbs so I feel so much better about myself and have much more energy. Have about 30-40 more lbs to go but  I love me now. Want this vacation to be very special gift to not only my family but to me.

Try VRBO for places to stay.  It's vacation rentals by owner and a lot of the places have all the amenities from home.  We stayed in Cottage Creek (I think that was the name) by Sea Crest (very close to Rosemary Beach) and it was fabulous!  The house was kid friendly, had bikes, games, floats, a grill, games, puzzles...we bought groceries and stayed in most of the time.  Had a wonderful pool and hot tub...I loved it.  The only time we left, we went deep sea fishing  and out to eat a just few times - it was great as well.  Have a wonderful time!
