Did ya eat ya PEAS and GREENS?
My Mama always fixed a big meal on New Years Day. It consisted of meatloaf, collard greens (for money) and blackeye peas (for luck) mashed potatoes and cornbread. We always had deviled eggs too. Since she passed 7 years ago, I have managed to carry on that traditional meal and always have my Dad over to partake of that special New Years meal. We just finished up supper and as always, it was as good as ever. May we all wealth and luck along with many of God's special blessings during this new year of 2010.
Do you have any traditional holiday meals? Especially New Years? What did you cook today?

Mine is pretty much the same as your's Loretta. I did not make eggs, but cooked a little dressing. I made turnip greens also because Paul would rather have them than collards. I joke and tell everyone that this is the first and only meal of every year (of that size) that my poor ole hubby gets LOL. We have always had this. Momma made it when I was a kid. It is just how it is suppose to be LOL. You and your family be blessed with all the riches that God has to offer. Love you!!!!
Isn't it funny how we carry on traditions from our families even after they are long gone? I'm sure my Mawmaw must of cooked the same thing, for my Mama to cook it year after year. I can remember going to my Mawmaw's every Sunday after church, growing up and we'd either have fried chicken or roast with taters, carrots and onions. That was SUNDAY dinner ever other Sunday. It was always so good too. That woman could really cook. I sure do miss her. She died a couple of years before my Mama. There was always fresh vegetables from the garden during the summer and in the winter we'd have those that she'd put up in the freezer or canned.
Carmen, I hope you have a wonderful Saturday. Be blessed.

I love collards and cabbage but HATE turnip greens, spinach, mustard and the like. Rutabagas are a hit on my Daddy's side of the family, but they disgust me to even smell them. Funny how different areas eat different foods. I'm still waiting to try that cactus you make. ha ha! I'll try anything once. LOL
