still needing info...
my bariatric surgeon has moved away and closed her practice...are ANY of you having follow-up care with a dr who wasn't your surgeon? any info on the 'walk-in' clinics in nashville and birmingham that will adjust lapbands?? a bariatric surgeon's office in huntsville told me that i could go to either one to be adjusted. thanks for your help!
I don't have lap band...I have RNY, so I don't have an answer for you. I do not go back to my surgeon. He is too far away for me to visit. My primary care physician takes care of my needs. People differ in the instructions that they received from their surgeon.
I am sorry that no one helped you, but it was most likely because none of us knew what to tell you or to make a suggestion.

i appreciate your reply. the lapband adjustment requires the skill of a bariatric surgeon. special schooling is required. it can't even be done by a regular surgeon.
i know dr murrell had more lapband patients than just me. i was hoping one would see this and let me know if they found a dr to cover their post-op care. maybe one will turn up yet!
thanks again!

the letter i got from dr murrell said that dr mailapur would have our records, and handle our aftercare if needed. dr mailapur's office says this is not true. they said dr murrell had not contacted them, and they were not aware of the situation till many of her patients called to be seen. they do not have our records, and they are not taking her patients.
i had to fill out a mountain of paperwork, and found some surgical records at huntsville hospital. dr mailapur is reviewing my stuff now, but does not guarantee taking me now or in the future. and it's another $200 fee up front for the consultation should i get to go there.
i loved dr murrell, and i'm quite bothered to think that she would send out misleading info. yet dr mailapur's office is adamant that they had no contact with her at all.
thanks for his location. it will be easy to find. hope all is going well for you. maybe i'll be seeing your dr soon :)

The best advice I can offer is that you may have to just call a lot of the bariatric surgeons and see who will take you. A lot of surgeons do not want to come in and follow up with patients who have used another surgeon. I have not heard of any walkin clinics in the Birmingham area. Call the Kirklin Clinic in Birmingham and see if one of their surgeons would be willing to see you. Google Kirklin Clinic and get the 800 #. I hope this will help you some.

There is a FillCenters USA in NAshville. I have no idea what they charge for fills. If you go to www.fillcentersusa.com you can see a list of centers.
Good luck!

Interestingly enough I have had a hard time getting the local bariatric surgeon to be willing to see me for follow up care (I am thinking of my two year appt coming up in March), BUT I had to have a lymph node removed and his non bariatric surgical partner did it. There have been complications, so the staff has gotten to know me .... so I mentioned that I want the bariatric guy to do my follow up visits. Now, they are agreeable.
Sometimes it is the staff that you have to sell on the idea. If they won't go for it, perhaps your old doc can send a letter to the proposed new doc asking them to take on your case and care. Otherwise a referral from your PCP.
